Pls tell me about Mantua

Anonymous
As many people pointed out, the area affected by the spill is but a TINY part of the larger mantua area.

Many parts of Mantua are not that cheap at all.. In fact, it has good schools so in many parts and the surrounding area there is no real discount to speak of.

They're not cheaper. They're actually more expensive because the elementary school is very popular, and people like the sense of community there.

"400 gagillion gallons of oil leaked into your backyard neighbor's house, but don't worry, this house is just fine." Wow.

Jeez, talk about a bunch of chicken littles in this thread. I don't live in Mantua but everytime someone comes here and asks about Mantua you have (probably the same) people crying about how there was some ginormous oil spill. We get it, there was a spill over a quarter century ago. That doesn't make it a toxic waste dump.. lol It also didn't affect the whole area. Yes OP, you must be new here. DCUM is a bunch of SAHM self promoters of their own neighborhood and shitting on everyone else's. Yes, we get that there was a spill. Please STFU already..

LOL!!!

Right? People who worry about their kids getting leukemia are such a bunch of chicken littles. We regular folk flavor our kool aid with DEET and swim in the Potomac every day. We make mud pies with PCB sludge, it binds great!

Are your kids eating fistfulls of dirt when they play outside? I'm just curious how they are going to get leukemia. This isn't China.. yes there is SOME risk in the affected area (which is small), but the rest is chicken little nonsense.

Anonymous wrote:Wow, defensive much? Do you let your kid splash in the puddles in the backyard of that Acosta Road house you got dirt cheap?

Nope, as I said, don't live in Mantua, try to stay with me. Just tired of all the DCUM haters who have their head up their ass. I'd rather my kids play in toxic puddles than live next door to you, that's for sure.. lol

Sure, Jan.

Wow, that is surprising. Are realtors required to disclose this kind of info when they show it to buyers?

+1

:standing ovation: YES! THIS!

To add, WTF does it add to your (posters mentioned above) particular neighborhood to sh&t on someone else's neighborhood, or make claims that imaginary issues are "wrong" with someone else's neighborhood? I read such accusations often, and I am wondering if such claims make alternative neighborhoods look bad. I know that the claims make me question the posters (and their sanity), whether the claims are overly "pro" (claims about "how great" the neighbors supposedly are) or overly "con" (cons usually involve airplane noise or similar claims). We can all Google. Sit the hell down.

Right! And none of them eat paint either, so no worries about lead!

Obviously... you do not have kids.

I have two kids. I think I'm a hovering parent (to some degree), but it's clear DCUM is full of the who's who of helicopter parents. There are chemicals all around us and in our food. I'm not saying you should let your kid eat tide pods, but over worrying about nothing and being scared of everything isn't good for your kids either.

Hey buddy, please don't use facts. Don't you know that all of Mantua is a cesspool of toxic waste? The internet experts are here and they said so! Clearly you are misinformed! lol

Not a helicopter parent at all. That's why I worry about big things and not little things. I don't care if they roll around in the dirt all afternoon.

Little thing: worrying about kids eating dirt.
Big thing: knowingly letting your kids play every day where dirt itself is potentially toxic.

I just don't see why you'd roll the dice on something so easily avoided.

It's one thing to avoid buying a house on Tovito Drive. It's another thing to avoid buying any house in Mantua, since most are not very close to the oil spill area.

But some are very close to the oil spill area, and people bought and are living in those, too. Which I find bizarre.
Anonymous
Maybe the fact that people are living there and not experiencing any problems shows that > 20 years later the oil spill has been remediated.
