Yes, I think many schools use the NNAT to highlight who to look at for advanced math in second grade and who to prepare for as a referral.

My daughter is in 1st grade now.We got her score yesterday. What as a parent we should be doing to get her into AAP ? How important is COGAT ?

In 1st grade, give her opportunities to read, including the library or book stores. That's all that you should be doing.

Would the school inform the parents if their kids are in Level II Math class?
What NNAT score needed in order to go to 2nd grade advanced Math class?

It doesn’t work like this. It is just a possibility.

My DC's school doesn't inform me of anything regarding differentiation. Other than on the report card that notes "above grade level" on the reading/math. That's it. When my older kids were little, I asked the AART to see their AAP file and the acted I was so strange for asking. I found so much of the information in the file to be useful - not just for AAP consideration, but there was so more insight/comments/analysis of my kids' school performance that I EVER could glean from the report cards or even teacher conferences. It is strange to me that the school seems almost guarded about that kind of information. It seems that they don't want parental involvement in "placement"

^This.FCPS do not want parents to get involved in anything but contributions to PTA, providing snacks, volunteering for stuffing papers etc.. Basically everything else other than taking an active participation in the child’s education.

Based on previous posts, it seems that delivery varies by school. Ours came home in a sealed envelope in the weekly folder.

This is one of the stupidest posts ever. I’m printing it out and posting in our teachers lounge. Teachers, especially the principal and first grade team, will be crying from laughing so hard.

Maybe if you put your energies into doing a better job communicating with parents, rather than ridiculing us among your peers, we wouldn’t be so uninformed.

+1. Teacher communication regarding these standardized tests is an absolute joke. Former teacher here, too. I’m appalled by what I have witnessed being on the parent end now. Complete laziness and lack of communication. It never would have flown at my shcool!
