| Does it vary by school? DS's teacher told me a couple weeks ago that I shouldn't expect to see scores until May or June and if I was interested in seeing them sooner I could ask the asst. principal. This is Haycock. |
Thanks. Yikes....I thought his 129/96th % was good, but I guess that won't get him in the pool.
|
You can always parent refer. 129 is very close to 132! |
FWIW my oldest is now in AAP. I really didn't know anything about the process when he was in grades 1-2. When I saw his NNAT I thought to myself, "ok, so I guess AAP is a no." But, then he tested into the pool on the COGAT. |
| ....still nothing in 22153 |
|
Not to be naiive...but what exactly does this test indicate in terms of FCPS - does the school follow up and say "we saw Larla did awesome on the NNAT. Let's talk". Do parents have to initiate paperwork?
|
^^to follow up, I'm not even sure if my kid's score is great. Above the average listed on the sheet, but I'm sure there were tons of other kids that performed the same or better (75%). And is that of all kids in FCPS or just the specific school? |
It is one of two tests that form the 2nd grade screening pool for Level IV AAP, which starts in 3rd grade. While the exact cutoffs are set after both tests have been scored, typically, a student would need a 132 on either the NNAT or the CogAT taken in October of 2nd grade to be automatically screened for AAP. With scores below cutoff, you can still parent refer for consideration. |
DP. Other than AAP eligibility, I don't believe the NNAT score is used for anything at all. I don't think that 1st grade or 2nd grade teachers see it, or, if they do, do anything about it. |
| The teachers at our school do see it I believe and I would bet they use it for 2nd grade class placement. |
When my kids were in 2nd grade (5 years ago) I was told by the AART that NNAT scores were looked at to help identify 2nd graders that could benefit from Level II and III services. |
| What is the highest possible score? What is the cut off for AAP in Lemon road school ? |
Nnat scores are used to determine level 2 eligibility. Teachers also flag those kids going into second grade so they are looking for work samples and gbrs commmentary info related to them. Kids who are clearly bright but didn’t score that well on the nnat can still be flagged by the first grade teacher for pull outs, push ins, level 2 services, work samples, etc. |
| Scores came home in Tuesday folders today. |
| I have a daughter in 3rd grade AAP Level IV now. Our school differentiates for Math in 1st and 2nd grade. The 2nd grade math placement seemed to be very telling r/e getting into AAP level IV for 3rd grade. We have two third grade level IV classes, and there were 2 advanced Math classes in 2nd grade. From what I can tell, it seems that every kid in those 2nd grade math classes ended up in AAP for 3rd. I can only assume that the NNAT plays some part in that placement. a few months into 2nd grade, I asked her teacher something about AAP, and the teacher looked at me and said, "Oh, I've been saving work for some of the kids".......So, you better hope your kid's teacher is saving their work from the beginning of the year!I had no idea the teachers decided who they were saving work for in preparation for the screening meetings. |
