If the ex is mentally ill, it is probably a pretty good trade off to not get the money in exchange for not having to interact with her. On the other hand, if you're at the point where you really need the money (if you have multiple sets of braces to cover or therapy for the kids or college), then perhaps you have to make the decision to have wages garnished to collect the child support. Either way, you two need to be talking more to decide what's right for the family.

OP, you will not win this battle. You would be better off looking at how great your life is and trusting that your husband knows his ex better than you and is making the right call. Trust him.
