| Dear God what are you teaching your children???!!! |
| PP- about finances? ! not much haha .. they pretty much have no concept of anything monetary at the moment. Hopefully I can get it together sooner than later , they are very young still but agree it needs to change. |
| This has to be a troll. Her “haha, awe, shucks” attitude seems really familiar. |

OP, you are doing fine, don't worry. $13,000 in CC debt is nothing to worry about at your income level.
You are making enough money and you won't go broke. I once had $40,000 in CC debt and I was fine because I was making a lot of money. I was spending a lot and I was happy to spend. The most important thing is to be comfortable with your lifestyle. |
| Dave Ramsey is your friend. And start reading Michelle Singletary (or something like that. She writes for the Washington Post). |
OP here - thank you , there are truly helpful responses on here and yes I have to just face the fact and take responsibility. I am slated to receive a 14K increase in salary April 1st so I will use our savings now to pay it off then put the increase in income in an automatic savings account for emergency savings. Additional , I may have to use the freezer.. I don't know. I don't even trust myself.. yes my husband is aware of the situation but doesn't really care. He works long hours in finance and he thinks the 13K cc debt is not a big deal.
OP, you're right to be worried. You're also right to get your finances in order. You'll also find more good advice on the Babycenter "We Are Debt Free" and "Family Finances" boards, as well as the Bogleheads and Mr. Money Mustache forums. How are you guys doing for retirement? At 35 I believe you should have 2X your HHI saved for retirement. (Not to scare you but that's a common goal.) |
OP here... confession .. I shop a lot online .. and I know my CC number by heart and it is linked to all my accounts.. and amazon.. i mean any given day sometimes i pay down the CC and then use it to shop online.. not good ..
OP, in all sincerity, this sounds bigger than just personal finances. Are you impulsive/compulsive in other areas? Have you thought about counseling or therapy? I think it would be beneficial. |
OP here .. I realize this is stupid but I am nervous to cut it up as I have 3 kids and no emergency fund .. but I guess having it maxed out is the same thing as not having it since I can't add to it if I needed to.
