| Jackie Kennedy pronounced her daughter's name Carolyn. |
Yes. Like Tara |
| I have this exact issue and I don't even hear the person saying it "wrong" anymore. Weirdly my husband once revealed that his family consistently pronouncing it wrong bugged him on my behalf and I never clocked it. Part of the problem is my parents chose to pronounce it a way in total cross purposes with the accent I grew up with/around, so what did they expect? |

A lot of people pronounce their own names wrong too- like my married last name. A true Russian would be aghast.
Dubois pronounced Du-boys Gauthier pronounced Goth-i-er |
Which pronunciation of Tara- the first or the second? They're very different. |
Also, Benoit pronounced Beh noyt. And lots of Italian last names pronounced very differently than they would be in Italy. |
| I have had people tell me I pronounce my own name incorrectly. It's Kerry. I pronounce it the same as carry, Carrie, Kari and all other spellings. My family is Irish, many generations back, but that is why my parents picked that spelling. Some chick at bar lost it and started screaming at me because I couldn't hear any difference in the way she pronounced Kerry v Carrie. |

Pp, then how would you spell the name? |
No offense, but I hate when people do that. It’s passive-aggressive. |
Her spelling and pronunciation are fine, just don't act like people saying Carolyn are wrong and stupid. |
There's a technical assistance provider at my job whose name is Caroline. She clearly says Caroline when she introduces herself. But for some reason, everyone at work calls her Carolyn. I make it a point to call her Caroline when referring to her with my co-workers. |
| I never correct. It's just not that important to me. |
My name is Kerri and I pronounce it like merry, very, berry. To me, there's a difference in the pronunciation of Carrie vs. Kerri. Marry vs. merry. Barry vs. berry. My own husband tells me I'm nuts

Some people say my name ANN-a, others say Ah-na.
I don't like Ah-na but I don't correct them, I don't care. |
