Because these people go into debt to the coyotes. They sneak across. They dig their own tunnels. They attempt to swim rivers. This dumb wall - which really should be spelled "dum wal" in honor of just how insane an idea this is - will do nothing.

Except enrich Trump cronies, which I suspect is the main part of the deal.

The overwhelming majority of illegals are here because of overstayed visas. The wall won't stop that. Yes, there are a handful of people who survive illegal crossing by foot or in the back of a truck, but that isn't the problem. A wall doesn't address the main issue. It is an expensive and symbolic gesture, one even Trump knows is a crock

The Goodlatte bill is a very good starting point. It acknowledges that this will happen again unless we secure the border and cut out the revolving door. It won't pass as is, but it is a great starting point.

I think if Ryan goes to bat for them on that bill and tries to push it through the House, he is going to make more non-Freedom Caucus House Rs vulnerable in 2018 and potentially even Senate Rs vulnerable if it happens to pass the House. Not a wise choice.
