Olney — LGBT friendly or no?

But Silver Spring, 20901 which has several affordable areas is the next most gay friendly at 0.9%
Olney is not at bad as I thought, but 20901 is very gay -friendly.

We live in the Forest Knolls ES school district which includes South Four Corners, Northwood-Four Corners and Forest Knolls neighborhoods.
I would not look at Burnt Mills (20901) as the schools as not as good as other neighborhoods. Other neighborhoods are probably the same.

So if gay friendly important to you, we welcome you in 4 Corners, 20901, Look for the bigger houses in Forest Knolls Neighborhood, and Northwood.

These data and the methodology that generated them are suspect. I've lived around (if not in) these areas for decades and the homosexual population is much higher.

Nearly every school in Olney is minority-majority. I don't know why people are acting like it's completely homogenous. It's more diverse than anywhere in Bethesda or Arlington.

We've lived in Olney for 10+ years and if it were me I wouldn't do it -- from my experience, people here seem to be more conservative and less tolerant than in Takoma Park or DC. While the area is very racially integrated and pretty diverse in SES, not so much regarding LGBT couples or families...and I'm only giving this as my advice because you mentioned not wanting to seem like an oddity. Good luck with househunting and your decision!

My brother and his partner bought a big new house in a subdivision in a Republican voting "family friendly" suburb. They have no children. They didn't want the upkeep of an older house and were tired of cramped rowhouses and wanted space and a quiet neighborhood. They have no issues. Their neighbors have been friendly. Like most well off suburbs none of the neighbors are going around becoming best buddies with each other but have their own lives and are respectful and pleasant to each other. Their situation is not quite the same as yours but I would not fear Olney any more than I would fear Silver Spring or Takoma Park. The real issue will be whether it's important to you to be surrounded by other LGBT residents.

I would buy in the closer in suburbs of Silver Spring, Takoma Park, Hyattsville, etc. and enjoy the diversity of these communities! Very LGBT friendly.
