where Bethesda area high schoolers apply

Whoever questioned Indiana, I've met a number of kids who have gone there. Not every kid is going to get into HYP, they have to go somewhere.

Yes because the next step down from HYP is Indiana... Maybe you meant to say that not everyone can get into top 30 or so, which is when indiana would become an attractive option.

DC is applying to the following (in order of preference):

Stanford
Harvard
Penn
Duke
Northwestern
Vandy

And some safeties:

Northeastern, BU, NYU, GWU, UConn

It looks like the most popular places to apply to ( 200 or more applications) are: Cornell, Duke, George Washington, Georgetown, Indiana University, Johns Hopkins, Montgomery, New York University, Northeastern, Northwestern, Penn State, Princeton, Salisbury, St. Mary's, Stanford, Temple, Towson, Tulane, Berkeley, Delaware, UMCP, Michigan, North Carolina, Penn, Pitt, Virginia, Washington U St. Louis,

I have to admit I'm surprised by Indiana.

Don't forget Montgomery community college

The most important are HYM..

Your son had better have some safeties lined up. Most of the schools on that list (aside from UMCP and Texas A&M) are reaches, even for top students.

Texas A & M may be a reach depending on PP's son's scores due to the Texas 10% law. See College Confidential.

Oh, we were supposed to take this list seriously? I thought it was a parody of every DCUM Tiger Mom's college list for their kids.

Op her.
I do not see what's wrong with my DS list. This is what he likes and will apply to. It's funny who envious people are in this forum...

It is hard to imagine what interest your son might have that he would be happy at MIT, TAMU, and Georgetown. It looks like a list by someone who only knows magazine rankings.

I'm surprised that, except for St. Mary's, there is not a single LAC on the list.

LACs aren’t going to attract 200+ applicants a year from a single town.

Bethesda is not a town.

See that's the problem your imagination is very short. My son likes those schools because one very particular academic major and one very particular sport that non of the other school have. On top of that he is very well qualified to get in any of those school. Problem is people like you that talk and assume things without knowing anything.

Almost all applicants to top schools are well qualified and yet the vast majority don't get in. And why would anybody be envious of your list?
