I did not mean to out anyone nor even the name of the high school, simply "Public" or "Private" and, if possible, MCPS, FCPS, APS, DCPS, Etc.

Happy to redevelop the survey and ask Jeff to delete and replace this thread.

URM (Y/N):
Aid or Full Pay:
Who guided you to this ED selection (I'm looking to see where the advice came from -- a HS guidance counselor, parent influence, senior's top choice, outside college counselor who had some strategy, etc):

Critique away and let's get it right and start a new thread.

It shouldn't be controversial--there are thousands of kids in this area applying to many of the same schools. People here are paranoid and are clearly not familiar with CC. On your survey, I'd note that you haven't included recruited athletes in the hooks section, and you'd need GPA for context.

Nonsense. There are not "thousands" of kids from around here who applied to a certain SLAC that announced last week. And if I were to mention the URM status - the parents of the kid might well know who posted.the info, which is why I'm not going to do it.

No one is going to make you post, and you certainly shouldn't do so if you don't want to for any reason. That doesn't mean that others feel the same way, so there is no need to clamor for the thread to be deleted. Even if only white and Asian people with no hooks post, it's useful to others in the same boat.

With respect to the total numbers, there may not be thousands applying ED to a top SLAC, but there will be hundreds. Naviance indicates that 8-12 kids apply to Pomona each year from my kid's high school alone.

You're asking for way too much info, in a specific area, during early admissions. Way too easy to dox a family.

I think it is o.k. if the student or parent wants to give the info about themselves, but not for someone else to give it about a person they know.

Result: Deferred
SAT/ACT: 1540 SAT (770 Math, 770 Reading), 750 Literature Subject Test, 790 Chemistry Subject Test, 800 Math II Subject Test
Class rank: Salutatorian
Legacy: None
URM: No
Aid: Full Pay
Why: Her top choice
Next steps: Apply EDII at either UChicago or Swarthmore, apply RD to Amherst, Carleton, Colby, Bowdoin, Barnard, Wellesley, Columbia, Yale, Tufts. Already admitted to a match and safety school.

DC has similar stats and was deferred at Swarthmore. Can I ask which school you've identified as a match? That's been a difficult process for DC given DC's stats are average at the most selective schools.

Yes- my daughter's match is University of Pittsburgh Honors College. Her safety is a National Merit full tuition school. She also applied EA to Colorado College so she'll hear back from them soon.

If a kid is both a legacy and a URM, that's a golden ticket.

I heard legacy doesn't count for much anymore if you haven't donated big $$.
My kids are legacy and URM, we are preparing for state school.

Treatment of legacy candidates is very school-specific.
