Gifts teachers DON’T want

No one wants opened gifts. This has nothing to do with being a teacher.

I’ll take all the mugs, Starbucks cards, handmade ornaments, treats, and other consumables.

Please don’t give me any bath or body products unless you know my brands, or any large tchotchkes or decorative items unless you know my taste. Lotions go right into the staff bathroom, and I’m still hanging onto terribly fussy candlesticks and a hideous huge dog-shaped picture frame out of sentiment.

Ha! One year, I got, drumroll please......a vibrator from a family. I'm totally not kidding. It was Candy Caned shaped. (5th grade teacher) The mom worked at a "specialty store" and apparently thought I needed it. I was grossed out, but it has made for a terribly funny story.

I just give cash to the room mom for the group gift. I stopped buying individual gifts for the reasons listed here. How much 15-20 dollar junk does one teacher need?

I bought all the teachers Target gift cards this year when they were 10% off. Last year I did Amazon.

That's awful. You could at least pass them off to a senior citizen's home or homeless shelter. Sorry anyone wasted any time or effort on you.

A senior center cannot give food out like that if they don't provide or prepackaged.

Honestly, this thread makes me never want to give a teacher a gift. Many of you are extremely ungrateful. Nobody gives me gifts for doing my job. Perhaps the practice should end all together.

I agree, too. I am a teacher and I do not expect gifts. Anything families decide to give me is "extra" and I accept it with a grateful heart. With that being said, if I am given something I cannot use, I pass it on to someone who can. For example, I can only use unscented and dye-free skin products. All Bath & Body Works type gifts are given to my sisters.

My mom always got a lot of little gifts even though she taught in a poor school. She re-gifted most of them or gave them to the church white elephant sale but she appreciated the thought and the joy that giving gave to the children.
