Potential Addition of Advanced Academic Program (AAP Center) in the Edison Pyramid

Anonymous
Re-align the elementary boundaries in Edison and Hayfield pyramids so that kids are not in one pyramid for elementary school and another pyramid for middle and high school. That will free up capacity for a center to be place in Hayfield's pyramid (i.e. Lane).

The eastern segment of Lane's boundary (east of Van Dorn -- in the Greendale Village Drive area) is in Hayfield pyramid for ES and then moves to Twain and Edison. This area should be rezoned to Bush Hill or another elementary school in the Edison Pyramid since that is where kids go to middle/high school, and it is geographically separated from the rest of Lane's zone. West of Van Dorn should go to Lane; East of Van Dorn should go to an elementary school in the Edison pyramid. This will free up some space at Lane to be used as a center for the Hayfield pyramid.

Similarly, there is a small segment of the Hayfield Elem zone that ultimately goes to Twain and Edison. Take that area and re-zone to an elementary school in the Edison pyramid so that those kids stay in their pyramid all the way through HS.

Ironically, there is a segment of the Rose Hill elem. school boundary (which is in Edison pyramid) that goes from Edison pyramid for ES into Hayfield MS and HS. Switch these kids to Hayfield ES from Rose Hill. That would allow them to be in the same pyramid the whole way through (Hayfield).

In the end, this would better utilize the elem schools in Edision's zone (which are unusually small for FCPS standards), would align kids in the same pyramid, and would allow them to attend closer elem. schools in many cases.

This would then provide more space in the Hayfield zone to have an AAP center that serves the vast majority of the AAP kids in Hayfield pyramid. A center could be put at Lane ES(or possibly Hayfield ES) -- relieving any crowding at SEES (if that is necessary).

The result would be greater equity across the two pyramids and greater alignment for kids to stay within their pyramid throughout elem/middle/high schools.

AAP kids from Hayfield pyramid would still have to go to Twain for MS AAP, but that could potentially change in coming years if a center serving the vast majority of Hayfield AAP elem. students is created in Hayfield pyramid (creating a feeder source for AAP MS students within Hayfield).
