| 6'2" and 169 lbs sounds very thin and lanky for a teenage boy. |
|
OP, again, this amount of weight gain in 2 months is normal for a 15 year old -- peak growth spurt years.
Also, I suspect your child is just about to gain another half inch or so in height. My son had an eating disorder so I paid very careful attention to his height and weight gain. I noticed he'd put on about 5 pounds (always around his torso and waist) and then lose it almost overnight... but grow about one half an inch. He needed 5 pounds for each half inch! I think they burn fat to build the extra bones or muscle they need or something. You might find your child is a little taller, and lost 5 pounds, if you kept weighing him, but absent an eating disorder there's absolutely no reason to do that. |

NP here. Withholding food from your hungry teenager is a great way to start a binge eating pattern when he finally gains independence over what he can eat. Also, I have to buy my teenaged boys new pants every year, because growing boys grow. Yes, they do get tight in the waist, that part grows, too.

What is his waist/inseam measurement OP? At his tall height, anything in the 34-40" range would be expected.
Much less than 34" then he is starting to get skinny. |
| Did OP actually write that he is 169lbs? Or is this just other pp's conclusion? |
OP wrote that he is currently 6" (projected to hit between 6'2" - 6'4") and 168 lbs. So tall and thin to average in size. |
+1 This looks a lot like my 10 year old’s diet, except he eats a much bigger breakfast. OP, I wouldn’t worry at all. |
In that case, OP needs to realize that he is having a growth spurt and go into therapy herself! My 18 year old and just short of 6 feet DS is just over 130lbs, and here I am dreaming about him gaining weight and OP is possibly denying her DS to grow to his potential height. I know this as we had to see nutritionist for DS weight gain, and she was very straight that at that age weight gain=height gain, unless very overweight teen is in question. This is insane! Famous tennis player Roger Federer is 6'1" and 185lbs according to ATP info on him. And while, yes, he is muscle, he looks pretty normal to skinny to me and is not a growing teenager. |
Indeed, this is some kind of women weight loss diet! I am pp with 130lbs 18 year old and he eats way more than that. He told me how surprised he is to see at college that all his male friends are eating 2,3 platesfuls of full cafeteria lunches and dinners, and that he can't and only now understand how little he eats. OP, please, put your 80s skinny/scary thin attitude aside. You are wrong, and starving your child. I hope he is supplementing this insane diet with Chipotle and other food and you just don't know about it. I am approaching 50 and I eat way more than your DS eats, according to your list above, and weight 116lbs. Imagine you want him to reach 6'4" and feed him way, way more. 15lbs is normal and desirable weight gain at his age. Once he is reaching 200lbs, then it is time to keep an eye on it. |
| So, he's six feet tall now? How much does he weigh and what's his height? |
|
My 9 and 11 yos eat about what your son does, and they are half his size.
Only weirdos lock up food. |
|
The kid is 15, not 5.
Can't you just say " don't get snacks out of the basement closet. I will refill the upstairs snack supply when it gets low. The lock implies a problem. A big one. |
Did he shoot up height wise? Because 6' 168 is lean/lanky. But if he's been 6' for a year and only just now put on 15 pounds, that means that he was 6' and 153 pounds at one point which is downright skinny. He was overdue to put on a little extra. |
| This is a troll post for sure. |
| DH is 6 2 and weighs just under 200, and he looks slim. When I met him, he weighed 160, and he looked incredibly underweight. |
