So, where did Mayor Fenty's kids show up for school?

Anonymous
My condolences to the Fenty children. No matter where their DCPS school is located, they will still be shortchanged by a mediocre curriculum, particularly in the areas of literature, geography, history, and science.

And if this is what happened, then Fenty could just come out and say he pulled privilege to get the school he and, I assume, Mrs Fenty felt comfortable with. (Funny how so many posts refer to "he" as if mayor is single parent.)

As taxpaying parent, I have no problem if there is already a rule in place.

But it is hypocritical for mayor to ask for privacy now after he was the one who dragged his kids into this in the first place.

Wish he would just 'fess up and move on to his next PR blunder or whatever ribbons need to be sliced.

It looks as if the rule was only just put in place on May 29th that allows for discretionary transfers. A little too close for comfort, I think. See below.

Fenty Sons' Enrollment Allowable, Rhee Says
Twins Attend School Outside Neighborhood

A recent amendment to the D.C. Municipal Regulations also authorizes Rhee to grant a "discretionary transfer" if she determines that it would be "in the best interests of the student, and that the transfer would promote the overall interests of the school system." The amendment, which went into effect May 29, was part of a series of rule changes tweaking the out-of-boundary application process.

So basically they passed a law so they could bypass a law.

Or maybe from the private schools board?

Because you have no freaking idea what you're talking about, and you're being very cruel. The highest performing DCPS schools are excellent, which is why so many people with good incomes and excellent educations send our children to them.

I didn't attend two Ivies in order to send my kid to a crap school. I can afford any private school or a home in any suburb, and I chose my home for the outstanding DCPS elementary school I'm in, one of the advantages of which is that this ridiculous poster is not there.

would you mind saying which school you chose?

I live in DC and sent my child to DCPS for several years. I took a hard look at the curriculum. It's mediocre. I know what I'm talking about because I'm an educator. Performance and curriculum are two separate things. High SES kids can perform well on standardized tests and still be shortchanged by a mediocre curriculum. Highly intelligent people can also be ignorant about the world, about literature, about history, etc. You can kid yourself if you like.

Take with a grain of salt.

So, if Fenty's neighbors are upset over his cold shouldering West and skipping to the front of the OOB line--is anyone organizing a protest over this? I would demonstrate/remonstrate. Tired of leaders who don't lead by example.

I don't know that Fenty's neighbor's are upset by him skipping West -- probably more by him getting around the rules that apply to everyone else. I don't know of anyone in Crestwood who sends their kids to West or Powell. Everyone goes OOB, charters, or private.
