So, where did Mayor Fenty's kids show up for school?

According to the Post, at least one was at Lafayette:

I think he should just say where they're going and then not comment beyond that instead of making the press play hide and seek.

Where's the other one? Horace Mann?

They're both at Lafayette.

Okay, so now he was twice lucky in the lottery. He miraculously received two slots in the same school. NOT!!

I am no fan of Fenty but I am tired of the expectation that his children be treated like everyone else. What, as others have asked, President Obama getting his girls into Sidwell in the middle of the year? I am glad Fenty's children are in public school. I am sure other city officials and children of DCPS teachers have leapfrogged over the OOB waitlist.

And yes maybe he got lucky twice in the lottery! Or once and they invoked sibling preference.

I agree, PP. I am also not too fond of Fenty and am tired of all the bitching about him "jumping the line" to get his kids in school. I am glad to finally have a mayor with kids in DCPS.

12:28 again. 12:44. I am actually wildly disappointed with Fenty, so my intolerance of all this silliness is even surprising me a little. My child attended Oyster, one of the most in-demand schools in DC, and teachers' children were accepted over waitlisted children all the time. If it's wrong for the Mayor, why is it right for teachers?

Is this a first, a DC mayor with children in DC public schools? I can't remember where Marion Barry's son went to school.

Teachers work for so little money, and this is a perq that DC can provide them without much strain on the city budget. If you let a teacher's kids attend the school, at least that takes care of one big headache for that teacher, namely how to be in two places at once at after-school pick up. This is particularly true at Oyster where some of the teachers have to come from far away because (a) the specialized bilingual training is rare enough that you have to cast a wide net; and (b) the neighborhood is too expensive for someone on a teacher's salary.

A teacher's child being at the school invests the teacher further in the place as his or her own community.

I absolutely support this option for teachers, 13:28. I just think elected officials should enjoy the same perk. Why not? Better they attend public than private so the mayor can see what it's like to be a parent in this system.

Do you know if Reinoso got lucky with the lottery or did he leapfrog into the program? I know Rhee's ex lives in boundary, despite accusations that she used her position to get her daughters into the school.

I was pretty sure he went to St Albans- maybe public for elementary?

I think Barry's son went to Wilson for one year after leaving St Albans in the midst of the mayor's scandal in 1990. Otherwise, I am pretty sure he was at private schools.

Christopher Barry actually attended the same private school as the Fenty twins for early Elementary.
