I'm OP. I have 2 kids. One of them has medical issues that are likely to become increasingly expensive.

OP you aren't cheap. This person is fine to spend $100, you are fine to spend less. Nobody spends $100 on my kid and he somehow miraculously continues to LOVE his birthday.
