- Rs maintain control of House in 2018
- Rs pick up Senate seats in 2018 (probably not enough to overcome legislative fillibuster)
- Ds fail to field a viable candidate in 2020 and no prominent R challenges Trump; Trump wins re-election in 2020
- Trump appoints replacements for RBG and Kennedy, either before or after 2020
- Mueller finds some dirt on peripheral Trumpworld people like Flyn, but no finding of criminal wrongdoing for Trump
- Rs continue to dominate state politics able to maintain gerrymanderimg following 2020 census (SCOTUS is a wildcard on this point)

These are my predictions based on my reading of the political realities and the publicly available facts. The big wildcard, as another poster pointed out, is Trump's health over the next 7.5 years.

Adding:

I read the article and it's very weakly argued.

First, if Trump is truly worried about his family going to jail then he'll stay in power as long as he can in order to pardon them. He is distrustful of other people and would never rely on assurances that his family would be pardoned or spared if he resigned.

Second, the professor's main idea is that Trump's pressure on Comey will be the basis for criminal charges. This is highly unrealistic.

Trump can't count on pardoning his son because he can't be sure he's in office after all of the convictions. The safest option for Junior is for Trump to resign. They will probably drop everything at that point.

Trump, Jr's lawyer sends his thanks.

I think the only time period during which Trump may resign or be impeached is Nov/Dec 2018. If the democrats win the House, then I expect the R's move to impeach quickly to install Ryan as President. If they do not and Trump/Pence resign, the democratic speaker becomes president. The R's can use that fear to justify impeachment to the base.

It would behoove you to come to terms with the fact that President Trump is our president.

Seriously. Talk about "magical thinking." There is a serious inability to deal with reality that we see daily here on DCUM (and elsewhere).

Yep! But you missed removal based on the 25th Amendment which came after (or was it before) impeachment.

I did not vote for Trump but the delusional belief of some liberals that Trump is just going to fade away is laughable.

First, read the linked article.

Second, the burgeoning investigation into how Kushner ran the digital platform suggests Trump probably was not legitimately elected.

Third, you scumbag, impeachment is not possible when the GOP refuses to work for the country.

Fourth, go to hell. Everyone here understands that dementia-addled adipose bag is our POTUS. Unlike you, we resent his attempts to steal while in office.

DP: Calm down ...... you want to get rid of Trump and the Republicans? Focus on 2018 and 2020. Getting apoplectic and ranting away now achieves little other than giving vent to your frustration.

And looking like a complete idiot.

Get bent. We are focused. You and your ilk are not of interest anymore.

Another DP. And this is reason 1,000,001 why you and *your* ilk aren't going to win anytime soon.

A president does not need to await a conviction:

This, well said. But you are probably trying to persuade a bot,

Because anyone you disagree with has to be a "bot" or a "troll," right? Lazy, lazy, lazy.

It's sort of a Reverse-Turing test. If you are incapable of distinguishing yourself from a bot, then you effectively are a bot.

So again - anyone with whom you disagree must be a bot. Got it.

Such a quaint word, "behoove."

behoove

v.
To be necessary or proper for: It behooves you at least to try.
v.
To be necessary or proper.

All in the service of a meaningless post.

He forgets basic facts. In this age of constant digital recording, it's only a matter of time before he reveals his "true" self to the public.

Frankly, I think he may be quite depressed once behind closed doors, so he may impulsively resign. We just need to make him believe that it was his own "good idea." Keep him mentally taxed and psychologically anxious; this is when he makes his biggest mistakes.

Are you kidding? The American public voted for this sh*tshow knowing exactly what Trump's "true" self is. The pussygrabbing tape didn't phase his supporters, including the ones in Congress who ought to know better by virtue of their education, yet they gave him a pass.

Trump's true self has never been hidden. It's his criminal acts that he tries to hide. But his mental illness and increasing dementia make that more and more difficult for him to do.

Yes, I want my president to be "anxious ... and make big mistakes." You're an American? Why don't you leave.

He will be the first sitting president to leave office to go to jail.
