Ok cool. We will check it out. |
15:36- yes, they try to group the girls together, but there were not enough for a girls-only game last week. So some boys were in the mix. |
How was the fpyc pickup? |
Lightning cancelled it...bummer |
Last week my ex pulled our daughter from ASA pickup because the coaches put all the 2nd grade girls on a field with the very young boys - as young as pre-K - instead of mixing them in with the boys their own age. There is a huge difference between an 8-year-old girl (who has played travel soccer) and a 4-year-old boy, and it should not be the responsibility of the girls to have to play with very little kids. Ex was really pissed at me for telling him to take our daughter, and i doubt he'll ever take her again. (I suggested he take her to the 3rd-5th age group next time since she is rising 3rd.) |
what did your DD say about this? did she ask to leave? |
15:00 - my daughter was less annoyed than my ex was, but she was fine leaving. The 4-year-olds were annoying her, mainly because they didn't know the rules. (normal for 4.) And she wasn't getting anything out of playing kids who were 4 years younger, who didn't know what they were doing. It would have made much more sense for her to be playing against kids her own age.
The same thing happened the week before, when I took her, but I made her stick it out because honestly, I don't pay much attention to what's going on out there. |
Sorry you had a bad experience, the U8/9 boys had a great time last weekend. I believe it will be at Wakefield again this weekend. |
i know this sounds snarky but this is typical 'sand lot soccer' - mixed age and ability level. hope she's still having some fun. i'm bringing my 6-yo DD this week. |
is it on the turf football field or the grass field beyond the fences? |
If I were you, I would encourage my daughter to simply go play with the boys her age. The whole point of pickup soccer is play with kids you normally don't play with, to challenge yourself, see what you can do...Why would just let someone place her in a group that's not challenging? |
The coaches are very accommodating. My child was once placed with a group of kids that were under his skill level. I left him there for the 1st half of the session because he was having such a great time....but later asked the coach if he could be move over with the more skilled kids and they were very accommodating. I take him because its so refreshing to see him get to run around with no instructions.....and he has played travel and is very serious about soccer. Its a bit sad that pick up has to be organized.....its pick up, grab some coffee let the kids loose to try the tricks they work on all day in the back yard. Its pick up! |
Besides FPYC and Arlington, any other pick-up soccer locations this weekend in Nova or DC? |
FPYC pickup unlikely tonight with this weather. |
Arlington Drop-in was fun this past weekend - lots of talent out there in the younger group. For kids not as talented (such as mine), the coaches had different fields for kids with High, Medium and Rec abilities. My kid was on the lower team, and didn't know there were more competitive groups, since he was having fun and felt it was competitive. @ Gunston the rest of the summer. |
