That's cause so many of the boys are proud chauvinists.

Nice way to deflect and totally untrue. My son is at STA and neither he nor his classmates in the upper school are chauvinists. NCS is an utter crap show compared to STA. It is common knowledge that STA is a better envirnment for students in every way. Its no surprise that many STA boys' sisters go to Holton, Potomac, SR, Visi, and other schools with better balance and morals and behavior. The ONLY thing about NCS that makes it a top school is its rigorous and greuling academics. Its social enviroment is toxic.

Shows that you don't actually have a daughter at NCS.

Remember the Google doc kept by the now-senior class a couple of years ago, in which they detailed all the sexual harassment and chauvinism that they had experienced from boys at STA?

You clearly don't have any knowledge at all. That doc was started and kept by NCS girls, one of whom gave an STA boy access so he could refute what a girl had written about him. There was more than enough guilt on both sides there too, the girls and the boys.

I am pretty sure that I made it clear it was generated by NCS girls. As for "guilt on both sides" - you are delusional. The girls started the document to vent about bad behavior by STA boys. They were into well within their rights to do so. It was the school administration that stopped it - not doubt due to the lobbying of STA parents in denial (like you) of the very entitled behavior displayed by many STA boys.

You are right and wrong in your recollections. It was started by some NCS girls to try to collect stories/recollections of behaviors they thought demonstrated a need to work on social interactions between the school. Someone at NCS showed to one or more boys and some boys posted some attacks that went beyond "refuting." An older NCS girl went to some faculty at NCS and the faculty worked with the original authors to shut down access to the document because it was not a safe or private way to share their experiences. NCS admin took it to STA admin. STA admin took it very seriously and, among other things, provided the document to the authorities (this was announced to the student body at the time).

So, I'd agree with you that "guilt on both sides" is not an accurate reading. But you are in error about why the document was taken off-line and what the school admins did.

Both schools handled it beautifully.

Do you expect the teachers and administration to come to your house and raise your kids?

Monitor parties and make sure your son knows to keep his hands and comments to himself and make sure your daughter conducts herself properly too.

Then go back to public. NCS is horrible, girls are mean, they don't get into good colleges, the school is full of rich snobs who don't talk the poor kids, they are not prepared for college.

Is this what you want to here??!!!!!! What kind of post is NCS impressions?!!! If you want to know come visit. It's not a school for everyone but the girls who decide that it is for them, love it. Put this to rest already why phish on this forum for impressions? Visit the school and ask one of the girls who attends.

Perhaps the fact that nearly 1/2 of the girls and one of the grades looked elsewhere, and approximately eight are leaving, is a reason that someone would ask for a variety of viewpoints. I know many families who have been very pleased with NCS over the years. I also know several families who believe that the worst parenting decision they ever made was to send one or more of their daughters to NCS. There is a pretty wide variety of opinion, even among parents of girls at the school. And, unfortunately, it is not easy to come to our schools when families are just looking. And it is hard to learn a lot from the tours.

One year. One class. Who knows why? Nobody on this thread, apparently. I'm sure the girls that fill whatever vacancies were created in the rising 9th grade will be very happy with their decision.

Please. it is totally true now. Why do you think many of the 28 girls applying out for highschool want to leave. One is even willing to go to Wilson rather than return to NCS after not getting into the school she wanted.

NCS's current environment is utterly toxic and the behavior it breeds amongst the girls is awful.

I am sorry if your daughter is not happy at NCS or had a bad experience. I really do mean that. All I can say is that my daughter is having a great experience there and I hope it continues.

I definitely don't have a daughter at NCS, but I have to agree that this years 8th grade is legendary for the mean, toxic, and extreme bullying. These girls are beyond the best fiction...in my craziest or wild dreams, I would never think girls could be so cruel. They are the absolute worst and make Lord of the Flies look like a fairy tale. It's so, so, so beyond bad. I would even suggest criminal and NCS should get a handle on it before something truly tragic results from it. The bad apples should be kicked out and the entire culture of that class needs a complete overhaul! It's not just one or two bad apples! Do the parents not read their kids social media accounts and see what they say about other human beings?!?!?! Where are the adults???

Here's what your missing: Regardless of the number of girls who may be transferring or seeking to transfer it's nothing that the school did or recommended anyone do. Let's face it, some people in Washington are complete and total pills. I've graduated one daughter from NCS and will graduate another soon and they/I couldn't be happier with the experience.

NCS has provided a quality education for 117 yrs. and I suspect it will be doing so for at least another century or so. The fact that some parents act foolish is in no way related to anything the school does.

Is the relationship between STA and NCS better or worse now since the google doc incident?

I'm glad your daughter "couldn't be happier", but if she's an 8th grader who has been torturing others, I don't care about her happiness! I care about her being held accountable and learning about social justice, empathy, and how to be a kind friend. Don't you understand that lots of the bullies are "happy" because they aren't adversely affected! You have missed the entire point! The school and 8th grade families should try to understand why so many wanted to leave, are leaving, and why so many of the ones staying are superficially "happy" and online bullies!

PP could not be more self-centered.

If true, then why were so many NCS girls fighting over sta boys (at least figuratively, and in one case nearly literally) in lining up dates during this prom season. Toxic and shameful.

I'm also a parent of a happy upper school student at NCS. Social media didn't exist and drive social interactions for our upper school girls when they were in 5th/6th grades to the extent it has for the current cohort of middle school girls. The current 7th grade class may have similar numbers trying to transfer out next year. I don't believe the current 7th and 8th grade classes are simply bad apples - they are the first cohort of girls entering the difficult middle school years that had phones/insta/snapchat/etc. as the main component of their social interaction. The problems with the current 7th/8th graders are a symptom of issues not addressed in lower school. 5th and 6th graders now are dealing with what used to be MS issues. The school needs to select engaged teachers for 5th/6th grades who are at least aware of this sea change and the impact it is having on young girls today.

^8th grade at SR, that is.

Moms and daughters who are the bullies of cause feel very happy in the grade/class - they are the alphas, at the expense of others. The lack of compassion and empathy is sickening in this day and age, may have also reflected in this class. Certain moms and daughters have no sense what impacts their words/deeds have had on others.

But there are always many things that are disagreeable in life. In this free market economy, let's see how NCS will evolve.
