Any death is tragic and horrible, but this was a service member rather than a diplomatic security or CIA officer who was killed. When you take the military oath, you take a different level of risk.

I agree. I have a son in the Army. While I weep for this parent, and any parent who loses a child during a military operation, it is one of the risks. Service members also die during training missions. It is simply a risk of the job. My son knows this, as do we, his parents. It is a tough reality, and difficult. But, our son knew the risks when he chose this as his job and so did we.
I don't think the "timing" of this mission has anything to do with any EO Trump issued. It has everything to do with having darkness. No full moon.
The military evaluates every mission after the fact. Training missions and actual missions. Perhaps they need to share their evaluation with this grieving father.

And the fact that Trump wasn't even paying attention to the action as it unfolded is okay to you as a military parent? This isn't like WWII in which the president couldn't watch every single battle or engagement in real time.

I don't believe every president has been present in the situation room for every military mission conducted in recent years. It is not realistic. No, as a military parent I would hope that the president has enough faith in those in command in the military to conduct missions to the best of their ability without been watched or monitored by the commander-in-chief constantly.

Trump supporter here. Any missing, especially a failed one, should have a full review. If there are issues withe the planning and execution, then there should be an investigation. Whether it's negligence or some more serious problem, they need to be discovered and corrected.

Good luck "correcting" Military Special Operations.

Maybe the Military experts here should join and show them how it's done.

But maybe for the first one of their presidency?

The worst part is not the excuse. It's the hypocrisy. Remember how they hammered at Barack Obama for not being in the situation room?

It wasn't the team. The Op was bad and should not have been green lighted.

This was reported a few weeks ago, that they convinced Trump by saying Obama did not have the guts to do it. Has it been confirmed or refuted?

"Defense Secretary, General James "Mad Dog" Mattis, and the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Joseph Dunford, reportedly convinced Mr Trump to go ahead with the raid by suggesting Mr Obama would never have been so bold as to actually go through with it."

What did he die for?

So that we could "capture bomb making videos" that are 10 years old and available on the internet?

So that we could kill an 8 year old girl?

This should truly be Trump's Benghazi.

They said the op was approved by Obama and they were just waiting for a night with no moon. I know that is wrong.

Yes, that is wrong information. The Obama Administration never approved this mission. Trump has American blood on his hands.

I don't get it. This move was developed under the Obama administration. Trump signed off, but it was indeed developed prior to Trump taking office.

Maybe - had Obama been in office - the final sign off would not have occurred. But at this point, I can't see how American blood is only on Trump's hands. I feel for anyone who's lost a child to war. So I'm not fully supporting O or T. But what's fair is fair.

The buck never stops with Trump, huh?! I wondered how my posts I would have to go before I would hit the "thanks Obama" poster.

Go back to predicting that Hillary was going to win.

Yes, they should review this mission. I'm a military parent, and I'm sad for this father's loss. I wouldn't judge him grieving for his son or any of his reactions. I did think Hillary's use of a gold star family was manipulative during the election, but Trump was stupid to engage that controversy. I would welcome an investigation.

A little reminder of a different SEALs engagement under a different president: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Death_of_Osama_bin_Laden&mobileaction=toggle_view_desktop Read the prep. Read the planning. The practice. Obama's engagement. Look st hi S face watching this occur.

I posted that, and I voted for O twice. I fail to see how what I've pointed out is blaming Obama 100%. It took two to tango. Someone set the set; the other called action.

I at least can look at all sides and not hold O up as some god who saved America.

eye roll? really mature
