It's still there.

Cabin John is the place for the drug deals.

is this fake news?

I hope he gets help, and I hope that no one dies or is harmed because of his drug dealing. I also hope that the boy who bought the drugs gets help. This whole situation is truly sad.

Boo hoo. "Heartbreaking"? Cry me a river.

The drug problem in the most-desired MCPS high schools is nothing new. Several police officers I'm acquainted with told me that those schools not only had drug problems, but that the drugs were more serious than the weed that is found at every high school.

Don't be foolish, parents...drugs are in EVERY school!

Sorry, I meant to say EVERY high school.

At 19, the dealer was not a 'boy', he was an adult, and he should go to jail for a long enough time to understand that actions have consequences. And I, for one, don't feel badly for 'all involved', since those 'boys' knew exactly what they were doing. Ugh.

You obviously have no experience with kids with drug or emotional problems. Karma is a bitch.

The "boy" comes from a nice family with lots of younger siblings. It is heartbreaking for the family.

My nephew literally saw a drug deal go down in his English class at WJ a few years ago. Teacher had no idea what was going on. Apparently there is large tree adjacent to WJ that is also popular for dealing and it's widely known. No idea why the police or school officials haven't shut that down. The point is that the drug stuff is going on all over the county and picking on one specific school is just naive. As for the prescription drug Xanax, I would hardly call it a "designer" drug of any kind. We know lots of adults (most of them just plain old middle class) who have prescriptions for it.

If your incoming freshman can drive you've got other issues to deal with. And a 16.5+ year old freshman should be able to stand up for him/herself pretty easily.

The WJ tree/open air drug market sounds horrifying! I am telling my kids tonight to stay away from that tree.

That's terrible! Can't they get a handle on that somehow?

At schools where the students have more money, there are more drugs and dealing. Was true of the private school I went to.

Not necessarily. My DD has a November birthday and will turn 19 senior year.

Because he was redshirted!

Kids aren't almost 20 when they start college sweetheart. I graduated college when I was 22.

Most of those teen counselors are stoned during camp. There is nothing to do
