| Eh, seems overly controlling to not 'allow' any other dessert in the house but I think the birthday cake tradition is sweet. My Methodist church hands out birthday cupcakes to the children after Xmas eve services. |

I love saying Happy Bday Jeeesssssuuuuusss!!!! at the top of my lungs.
But, I may be a bit of blasphemous, so don't take a cue from me. I also love saying Merry Hanukistmas, and Yo-yo-yo, it's a jolly season no matter what holy-day you celebrate. It's probably not okay to sit around singing birthday jingles to a Jew on a Christian holiday. I really wouldn't know, because I'm an atheist. |
| I've never heard of this |
I think her issue with. Other desserts is that it really sucks to do something you think is special and have a family member or other guest try to overshadow it with something else. I don't think that part is about Jesus, but about hosting. It is kinda like showing up for thanksgiving with A string bean casserole when you were not asked to being a side dish. |

The jig is up. You want to talk smack about SIL. Fine. Personally, I do think the cake is funny and ridiculous.

| If she doesn't serve Power Ade with the cake, then I do think you should say something, because it's just disgraceful and disrespectful. |
| I would mention that historians actually think Jesus was born in the summer... |
| Does she put 33 candles on top? |
| Also, 75% of Americans believe the historical figure of Jesus was born on December 25? That's... interesting. |
| Not a trend. My aunt has been doing it for 30+ Years. |

Who cares, as long as it's tasty???? I bought an expensive buche de noel from a reputable patisserie in Bethesda, and it was way too sweet. I'll take your SIL's cake, no matter how many bible verses it has, if it tastes better! The Basilica in DC had a tradition of offering children a slice of birthday cake after the children's mass on Christmas Eve. I thought it was a nice gesture. |
| OP, this post and your subsequent posts are showing and telling us much more about you than your SIL. |
|
In church on Christmas Eve the minister ( Lutheran) had the kids in the congregation sing "Happy Birthday song" to Jesus! I thought it was sweet and sang along! Even though it might not be his actual birthday we are celebrating the symbol of his birthday. Do you ever have your kids's parties on a different day other than their birthday? Did you not have cake and sing Happy Birthday or did you say "Andrew's birthday is next Tuesday so we can't sing the song or eat cake yet" LOL
Op, I think you need to reexamine this issue. You think SIL is fake or whatever but, it is not doing you any harm so let it go. Stop reading her FACEBOOK. Ignore, ignore, ignore. I'm sure there are plenty of things that you do that drives her crazy as well. We are all imperfect people. You should forgive and forget more. It will be better for you. Angry and bitter people don't live as long. |
Did you get it from Fresh Baguette? I purchased one from there last year and really enjoyed it, but I forgot to order one this year. I wonder if they changed the recipe or if I just have a sweet tooth! |
Yup! Team SIL |
