This is interesting because I tracked this one down yesterday and turned off the ad network that was sending it. That means it is coming from a second network today. I start tracking again. At this rate, I'll have all my ad networks turned off shortly. |

Okay, I tracked that one down and turned off a second ad network. If anyone gets any malicious ad after 10:45, please report it (it takes a few minutes for ad networks to stop sending after I've turned them off).

It looks like these pop-ups are being customized for your ISP (others have received Verizon versions). I'm not using a major ISP and they probably won't target me. Therefore, it is going to be very hard for me to reproduce. If this happens again, please look for any hostname or URL that might appear with the pop-up and let me know what it is. |

Hi Jeff,
Twice in the last hour I've gotten a scareware pop up from a site www.block201.com. It freezes everything so I have to shut down so I've not been able to get a screen grab for you. Our IT support company says it's one they're not familiar with. (Purports to be a Microsoft service site, w/ a phone number, use of Microsoft logo etc... but clearly is scareware.) I'm not getting that result anywhere else but here. |

Just as in the case just above your in the thread, these customized pop-ups are going to be very difficult for me to track down because I don't have a Windows computer and they probably won't serve those ads to me. I'll do what I can. Can you ask your IT guys if they have a proxy server and, if so and they are logging traffic, if they would be willing to share the logs for your traffic just before www.block201.com? We might be able to see which ad triggered that pop-up. |
