OP here. I checked out some stores over the weekend and tracked down some recs from this thread. Thanks for the input! I'm listing my impressions in case anyone else is shopping for dinnerware.
-V&B: not really feeling these in person but can't pin down why. Great deal at Bloomingdales though, at 50% off. -Pottery Barn: lots of reviews that PB dinnerware is too heavy and also shows silverware marks, so didn't check these out in person. -IKEA: used to have some plates from here and they developed hairline cracks. -C&B: thought I would like Aspen, but the "foot"/ridge felt too high so it was uncomfortable to hold the plate in one hand. Would not like unloading and loading dishwasher. Maybe I just have small hands. The Everyday line actually was most appealing with the lower foot, and I like that they are porcelain. Will probably pick up 8 or 12 dinner plates, some bowls, and get cups/saucers and other items elsewhere. -Corelle: still not a fan of most, but found some awesome looking entree bowls that have a more defined look. Would be great for serving pasta and stews and soups. Can't argue with the price! Target is sold out, so searching elsewhere. I remember eating from Corelle at grandma's and these dishes were very light but sturdy. -Sur La Table: totally forgot about them but I love this store, so I will look around to see if they have some white dinnerware that would work well with the C&B dinner plates. -WS: I didn't check them out because I've started to really dislike the shopping experience and service. Last two orders had issues and when I made a big All-Clad purchase here, they refused to honor the promotional deal after I sent in all the necessary forms. Should have stuck with SLT.

You can get Corelle on Amazon! |
Corelle often costs more on Amazon than in-store. |
Thanks - I checked, but they don't seem to carry the specific dish I'm looking for. Looks like Walmart stocks them periodically, so I'll keep an eye there. |
| Another vote for Villeroy & Boch's anmut plates. We got a set of these in 2009 when we got married and still use them everyday and haven't had any problems with them chipping, etc. |
We've been using these Martha Stewart plates, cups and bowls for 7 years now. Very durable. And OHHH so fancy

I bought ours directly from the Corelle website. |
I'm do too and I love it!!! I've had it for 13 years and it still looks great! Amazon sells some pieces |
| We have Wedgwood White and love it. |
| PSA - Was at homegoods in Rockville today and they had a bunch of Villeroy and Boch Anmut dinner plates for $5.99 and salad plates for $4.99. Unbelievable price! |
Ditto for me. We were also gifted a set of plates from that brand that does all the bright colors. I can't remember the name because we've never used anything but the mugs. |
Are these slightly off white or is it just my screen? |
Have those too. Held up great! |
| Macy's Cellar. Very heavy. I've had for a decade. |
There is a guge corelle store at the leesburg outlets. Every corelle product imaginable. |
