Elementary school with a large Arab population

They have a helpful Facebook and Twitter account where they show photos of the students (As an aside - how is a public school allowed to publish your kid's photo online? Anyone know?)

Parents can sign a form that prohibits the school from using images of their kids that applies to everything from yearbooks to instagram. Some undocumented families do this.

Oh, shut up. They do not! Stop making up stories.

If they are undocumented, they don't want to rock the boat and draw attention to themselves by weirdly demanding that their kids picture with no other personally identifiable information be published. What's a picture going to show? That a kid who's parents may or may not be persons of color or persons of foreign origin are attending the school. That, in and of itself, hasn't been criminalized yet.

^^^ not be published.

Also, only someone with an entitlement mindset who is already afforded all the privileges this country has to offer would even think it plausible that an immigrant family here illegally would be so demanding as to request no pictures. The very thought is so damn bizarre.

Are Arab children counted as white for demographic purposes.

They can choose to identify as white, Asian, or other. It's a mix.
The new census for 2020 will have an Arab category, so schools may recategorize after that happens.

I would imagine any schools that serve the neighborhoods around Skyline/Bailey's Crossroads/and Route 7 off Leesburg Pike. I work around there and there is a very large Muslim population. Good luck OP, hope you can find a school that is a good fit for your kids.

I suggest a private Muslim school OP. There are no majority any race school here in this area. You'll have to learn to integrate OP

I don't know if you have been through this area and I don't know what your definition of "large percentage" is; 10%? 5% large enough so you don't feel isolated?

I think it would be close to impossible to find public schools over the 10% mark, but I think most public schools in the Vienna / McLean / Merrifield area would have sizeable Arab populations so that you wouldn't feel isolated.

Agree with this. I have a kid at Shrevewood. There are a fair number of Arab students. I don't know the percentage. Very convenient commute to Tysons, also.

What if OP had framed his question:

"Elementary school with a large white population?"

Yes, that. Unlike Europe, Arabs in the U.S. do not tend to live close to each other, and do not factor proximity to other Arabs in their housing choices. This is why we do not have ethnic neighborhoods in this area.

Having said this, many McLean-Tysons area schools will have Arab-origin kids in elementary. None will have a "large community" of Arabs because there is no such thing as a community of Arabs in this area where many Arabs live close to each other.
there are streets and small neighborhoods

DCUM needs a lesson on the difference between Indians, Pakistanis,Arabs and Persians. All very different beasts people!

I teach in a NoVa elementary school. The students who transfer from KAA are notoriously far behind in their studies, poorly socialized, and usually as-yet-unidentified SpEd.

Interesting. I was actually considering transferring by two boys from AAP there. They have smaller classrooms and a beautiful facility.
