I don't think you need to be "documented" to enroll actually |
and you know they don't have a COSA? I mean we have kids at our school who use a family member's address as well - but have a COSA. For example they go to grandma's house after school and grandma lives in-bound. |
I think there is a process where 8th graders need to verify their residency. Here is a link to the form:
http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/uploadedFiles/schools/secondary%281%29/news/Student%20Residency%20Verification%20560-33.pdf and an old link describing what needs to be done and why: http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/press/printPress.aspx?id=1401 From the sound of it, it looks like the main purpose is to make sure there are no out of county students attending who should be paying tuition. With records, the standards will probably vary by school. And I'm sure some schools where you wouldn't think people would go to the trouble of sending their kids too might be a bit more lax about some of the requirements. I think for the cases where a student moves, they let the student stay in the current school for the remainder of the school year but the student then has to go to the new school the following school year from this webpage: http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/info/transfers/ "Family Relocation: When a family moves within Montgomery County, preference to remain in the original school will be considered to complete the current school year only. " |
You just need proof of residency, like a utility bill. Has nothing to do with legal status. |
What if you own a rental property in a desirable school zone with proof via property tax bill. Can you send your kid to that school if you wish? |
No, I know the one mom very well. She doesn't work, and is the one who does drop-off and pick up for her kids. Kids are not going to grandma's house after school. I don't really care either way, but I commented because the other PPs said that you can't do that. Apparently, some people do. |
I think that would be pretty easy to do. Especially if you have a tenant that's willing to work with you. And, you can trust them to get your mail, etc. Since MCPS mails things to that address and you might not want to miss something. Even easier if you (as the landlord) pay the utilities. You'd have a utility bill in your name if they did ask for proof. |
oh I have no doubt some people do. |
My kid has a COSA. Almost no one outside of school knows, because it simply doesn't come up in conversation. |
The immersion program makes the school sought after. As a result, multiple families use the same address to ensure their kids can attend. |
I'm the PP who posted about College Gardens. This is what's happening their - families own properties and are renting them to other families. The families who are renting AND the families who own, but don't live there, all use that address. |
^ ugh, there, not their - sorry, typo |
There is no local preference for the immersion program at CGES. Living in the area does not increase your chances in the lottery. |
This happens at our school also. |
Like I said, I know the mom very well and know for certain they don't have a COSA. She talks about it! Again, NBD, but just putting it out there, since OP was asking for options. |
