Ivy League student not missing, chooses to go off the grid

Hey OP! Did you see that story about the 4 yo who climbed thru the fence and thru the barriers to get to the gorillas' moat? We should see that as a lesson on what can happen when parents pressure their kids. Wait! I guess that's what can happen when parents DON'T pressure their kids.

Life is full of pressure from many different sources. The girl in the story doesn't exemplify any story about too much pressure. It exemplifies what happens when you don't seek treatment for mental illness. She has classic signs of depression if nothing else. Yet, she chose to shut off most (not all) of her contacts rather than go to the student health center.

I also think most people have a different idea of what 'off the grid' means. She didn't even go 'underground'. She changed her number and address but some friends knew how to get ahold of her. The police certainly found her easily.

I cynically think this girl planned this story for the eventual public attention she'd receive in hopes of launching that music and/or modeling career she is apparently so much more passionate about. Lordy.

I agree. The whole escapade comes across as a publicity stunt.

I expect a book and a gallery show in Williamsburg in the next 2 years

Was also uncomfortable with the quote from her mom- I thought you might be stripping, but if you were, you'd be the best stripper! A lot going on with this story.
