That's the second time you've called me a predator. Why don't you call the police. |
I actually got into a car when I was about 12. It was EXACTLY like the "abduction attempt" recently where someone (allegedly anyway) pulled over and said to the kids, "Hurry up and get in!" Only with me, i stupidly did it. Seriously terrifying experience. I don't know how much danger I was ever in, because I jumped out of the car once I realized I had no idea who the driver was, and when he slowed down enough for me to do it. So yeah, i can easily imagine that this stuff still happens today. I tell my kids all the time, "If anyone asks you for directions, don't come near the car. If they tell you your mom said to come with me, it's a lie" etc. But I can easily imagine they would do something stupid like jump right in the car and then think, "Oh, wait, my mom said never to do this." That's the way my kids operate, anyway. |
No, I wasn't the first poster. Obviously more than one of us thinks your response is weird. |
That is TERRIFYING. I am so glad you got out. |
When I was 12 walking home from school I walked past a parked car and the drive mumbled something. I figured he wanted directions so I walked up to the passenger side window. At which point he repeated, "Do you want some?" I looked down and he had no pants on and was stroking himself. Terrified, I ran the rest of the way home. I think about how incredibly lucky I was to get away all the time. My heart races even today when I think about it |
Cabin John poster here. I'll keep believing our neighborhood police captain who asks for the stuff to be posted on our listserv. But thanks for your concern. |
They all were investigated and proved to be unfounded. Either a product of an overactive imagination or a child looking for attention. |
OP here... just saw this on the Chevy Chase neighborhood list-serv: sad the conversation devolved so quickly: hopefully folks are right and this is all somehow fabricated, but until then, I'm taking the reports seriously and keeping an extra eye out...
From: 'Gresham, Melvin (MPD)' melvin.gresham@dc.gov Good morning, The Second District was recently alerted to several incidents in which unidentified male subjects were observed watching children. While we have not had any reported abductions or attempted abductions, we wanted to provide our community with a synopsis of each incident and a description of each subject. We have documented each incident and ask that you immediately report any suspicious person(s) or activity in the community so that the person(s) are identified. We have increased our visibility in the areas around schools and playgrounds and ask that the community continue the great job of being vigilant. Absent any additional information, this seems like pure paranoia to me. One man driving a car slowly near a child, another man taking pictures of children on the playground. I mean, really. |
First castrate with a rusty, dull knife. |
You don't think it's weird that someone would take pix of kids on a school playground? |
And then let them grab their ankles for the 5 years of appeals. And then zap 'em. And yes, random dudes photographing kids is freaky. You really want one of those old shriveled up dudes jerking off to a photo of your daughter on the swing? |
Agree with this PP- I was at a public park with a splash water with my kids (then ages 6 and 4) who were running through- really no one there (in this area - way further down there were a few more kids in a different zone). Some older man was there and was taking pictures. I went up and asked him to stop taking pictures (most people usually ask before taking pictures of your kids). The man grumbled and said he could do whatever and then KEPT taking pictures- roamed around the area away from me but was still taking pictures of my kids. I wish DH had the "this is a most likely pedophile" alert as I did since he didn't react. I ended up grabbing both kids and got out of there. SICK people out there! |
No, why would it be weird for someone to take pictures of children on a playground? Besides that somebody will assume that they're a predator. |
