Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
Huh?! I don't even understand your post, which seems contradictory. Teachers DO have personal days that they can use (outside of winter & spring break, etc.) - they can use these days to go to the doctor, to take their kid somewhere, etc. That is what this teacher was apparently doing. How is that "wrong"? |
It would be a personal day just like anyone else in another profession. |
|
OP, you're the worst.
YOLO |
Please be a pre-school teacher, please be a pre-school teacher..... |
| And this is why I'm no longer a teacher. God forbid a teacher takes a personal day to attend a special event with her family. |
This was a joke. And no, we are required to code it as a sick day. |

I'm not a teacher and I am a parent. I think that not only is OP being ridiculous, but she's also pretty obnoxious. Fair labor laws state that neither an employer nor a customer can dictate when or how an employee uses their paid personal leave. I agree with the person who says that it's a once in a lifetime event. I've known many friends who have tried for several years to get tickets and it's taken several years to win the lottery and get them. There's only a small window when your kids are the right age and if you happen to be lucky enough to get tickets in that window, then your children deserve to go. I think it's unnecessarily authoritarian to tell a teacher what is and is not an appropriate use of personal time off.
I would feel awful if my child's teacher forewent such an opportunity for his/her children just out of a sense of obligation to my children. |
|
I hope the teacher had a fantastic day and made wonderful memories with her kiddos! I also hope she ignores the juvenile rhetoric of OP. Teachers deserve our respect, compassion and support. Guess what, they provide that to our kids and it supports our parenting goals to boot.

What a facetious looser that teacher is! I bet she gives the kids candy, too.
Lighten up, OP. Teachers are regular people with regular jobs. They are allowed to take days off for fun, too. We wouldn't tell you to never take a vacation day, so don't tell other people what they should do either. |
| I'm curious what school. DC's teacher was out for a good part of yesterday and I hadn't thought of that as the reason. Good for her if she went. |
The "tons" of time off might have been training, meetings, or something work related and not neccessarily personal time off. Dcum judging at its finest. Right here folks. |
|
What school system Op?
Fcps has off Easter Monday. |
|
Teachers get PTO and vacation days, too. If you can't deal with it, then home school. |
Could not agree with you more PP! That's a perfect reason for a personal day and I would have taken it too. Teachers are held to these incredible standards, but parents can absent their kids from school anytime without warning and expect teachers to bend over backward to cater to them. Also, don't know what school this was, but the majority of kids in NOVA were off yesterday as FCPS had a teacher work day. |
| Why did she open her big mouth? She can do whatever she wants and take a personal day if allowed - but I'd think a lot less of her for her lack of professionalism. Poor judgement to mention it. |
