| DS 8, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Captain Underpants, and the non fiction series "You wouldn't want to be a....." |
| Lots of great ideas here. Thanks, everyone! |
| My 8-year-old is ready to tackle Harry Potter. He enjoys reading though and has recently liked the Jake Drake series by Andrew Clements and those Minecraft "Diary of" stories. |
Meant to say "is not ready"! |

My 8yo has the ability to read Harry Potter but is easily scared so has not read further than the first book.
Right now she's reading a lot of Roald Dahl. |

I have a 8 yo boy with dx special needs (mostly speech) but reading was an issue. He wasn't reading hardly anything at all last year and this year he can read Captain Underpants, A to Z Mysteries as his first chapter books. I am elated he is starting to enjoy reading. I never thought that would happen. Oh, and he is pretty much on grade level maybe a couple of months behind.
However, he still prefers to do iPad or video games, which I limit (nothing M-Th) but his dad lets him get away with binging on the weekend. Even my dad says I am too hard on my him. But, he can't get off once he starts so he does better when he has nothing. |
| DS (9 in three weeks) just started the first Harry Potter book. Most recently he read “The Magician’s Nephew” by C.S. Lewis and has read most of the Roald Dahl books. Chapter books are a struggle, as his attention span isn’t great. He much rather read a non-fiction book (favorites are the Knowledge Encyclopedia, Weird but True, and Ripley’s Believe it or Not). I appreciate his interested in non-fiction, but I’m trying to push for him to read more novels. |

What do kids read after Big Nate and Wimpy Kid? Both my kids 8 & 9 read those books over and over again. I don't mind them reading the books but if there is something else out there with a character like Nate I will pick it up. My daughter like Roller Girl but it's the first in the series so we have to wait for another. |

| My 9 y.o. is reading the atlas and the newest Guinness Book of World Records. Wish we could find a new series of books to capture DC's attention - I think good fiction helps build a better vocabulary and writing style, but it is what it is. |
