Currently reading Harry Potter series, right now Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince
Also liked Wizard of Oz series
Boxcar series
Non-fiction about dinosaurs, space and solar system, plants, geography, geology etc

and from the other end of the reading spectrum....

my just turned 8yr old is reading Dr. Seuss. Green Eggs and Ham is the favorite this week.

SOmeone suggested Tuesday in the Castle series....I read these on a plane when I didn't pack an "adult" book because I didn't anticipate having any free time! They are really good!

I also really recommend the Daniel Pinkwater books.

My kids 7-9 really like the 39 Clues series also.
And my 7 year old really likes the Geronimo Stilton books.
