What do middle school girls wear (spin off)

My child couldn't care less about what she wears other than comfort. That is the only consideration. She is in 6th grade -- not MS.

I'm just wondering if your girls always wanted to look nice or when this occurred.

As far as I can tell, in middle school, it's not a question of wanting to look nice. It's a question of wanting to look like the other kids.

My daughter started thinking about this in fifth grade, when she noticed that some girls were picking on some other girls for their clothes. Her goal was to wear clothes that were unremarkable. Actually that still is her goal.

Yoga pants, leggings, Uggs, duck boots, toms, converse with quarter zips are popular. Stores are Aeropostale, Altered States (none in DC, look online) is a great store. Very trendy but modest clothes. Old Navy, Top Shop at Nordstrom, JCrew are also popular.

These are expensive stores, but tweens are very label conscious (even if the label does not show) Zara is much more on point than macys. Macys has a sort of cheap/ slutty look. You might be better off with fewer but higher quality than tons of cheap clothes from macys/ old navy. Dark skinny jeans are a base. Hollister and Abercrombie are going out, but they still have higher quality/ cheaper clothes due to sales. I would put a significant amount aside for a weekend after school starts (but what you want might be sold out)

Pretty much sums up my kids friends too. DD is a little more boho than most of her friends so wears flowy tops and lots of bracelets, but other than that its the same.

We get a bunch of stuff from Top Shop at Nordstrom, it is surpisingly affordable. I have to say I disagree with the Macys stuff - we have found some cute things there. No one my DD knows shops at Brandy Melville (you are honestly saying with a straight face middle schoolers shop there?), its Simply Southern Co (I always get the name wrong DD hates the shirts everyone wears), Vineyard Vines are the show off brands.

Op, no advice but I want to commend you for caring and trying to help your DD fit in! I moved from a uniformed middle school overseas to a public, mom uniformed high school I the US and my parents did nothing to help me transition/fit in. It was hell. It got better only when I started earning some money and buying my own clothes. Your daughter will remember this!

My dd is only in 5th grade but the middle school kids dress the same. Athletic leggings/yoga pants, long shirt. Vineyard Vines, Under Armour, Iviva, North Face, Uggs or tall leather boots for dress up. She doesn't like to dress up (wears uniform at school) but she'll wear sweaters and dresses from Zara. She won't wear jeans but if she does, it's jeggings. Super skinny so pants don't fit her well otherwise.

Justice was more a thing in second/third grade.

I know nothing about the brand, my ms is still unaware of trends, but found this: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/14/brandy-melville_n_5978626.html . Sounds awful.
