What do middle school girls wear (spin off)

I love when teachers do that!

She really does not have many clothes, nor has developed a personal style, due to wearing uniforms all the time and a general indifference to clothing. What styles, brands of clothes do middle school girls wear? Are there any we should avoid that would negatively stereotype her with her new peers?

Of course I understand that clothes are not the end all, and be all, but if I have to buy her a bunch of new warm clothes I might as well try to get stuff that helps her fit in... please don't judge.

We transitioned from overseas this summer and went through the same experience (going from uniforms to regular clothes; overseas vs America). First, we did not buy anything new until after school started. My daughter is into fashion, but her new friends are not - and the trends in America were different - so, after she got a look around, she settled on the typical leggings, boots, etc. Right now we mostly shop at Gap or Target, but I'm sure she'll want to go to Abercrombie and the like as she gets older.

Thanks, I just ordered her a few things (dark/basic/no overt labels) so she can have some warm clothes her first week or two. I decided to hold of on getting more. Especially the Doc Marten combat boots...

My younger sisters used to wear a lot of Limited Too clothes when they were in late elementary school.IMO, most of their stuff was a lot cuter & less gaudy back before it became Justice.

My 13 yo DD wears t-shirts, hoodies, and jeans. The tops will not have a commercial logo on them; they will either be sports related, or something funny.

I think she dresses this way to hide her figure; she does not like people noticing her. (At 12 guys started oogling her; she did not like it).

I don't have a daughter but I'm 32 and I wear leggings and boots all the time. Maybe I should go back to middle school.

This is a good description at my DDs school as well. I would get lots of leggings/jeggings if she doesn't like jeans. Top with t comfy t-shirts, sweaters and flannel button downs are very in right now. Any black ankle boot will do (don't have to be doc marten's I don't think). Converse, Ugg boots, and sperry topsiders are the shoes of choice.

OP said daughter doesn't like anything tight...

OP here, my DD is fine with tight (just prefers dark colors and comfy/soft cottons), it was another poster whose child did not like tight...

Hi OP. My 8th grader at a local private likes American Eagle outfitters now. She used to wear tons of Abercrombie but now will not wear it. At her school, tons of girls wear leggings as pants, but she won't wear that either. She mostly wears the American Eagle skinny jeans & shirts with no words or logos. A few kids at her school wear Doc Martens. I wanted to get her a pair (nostalgic for my own teen years) but she wasn't into it as she found them uncomfortable.

For all of you talking about what your child will or won't wear, can you tell me if your child was always concerned or aware of what she wanted to wear?

My child couldn't care less about what she wears other than comfort. That is the only consideration. She is in 6th grade -- not MS.

I'm just wondering if your girls always wanted to look nice or when this occurred.
