I want to see Edith have it out with Mary, spill the beans to everyone about Marigold, and then go live the life of a badass career woman a la Peggy Olson in Mad Men. Cigarette and pornographic painting optional. |
Bates has you hoodwinked! |
It's hard to even remember what he was supposed to have done this time around. First it was killing his blackmailing wife, then it was killing rapist valet...Of no criminal investigation would have been pursued that doggedly during that era--three years. He was a unknown valet not an Archduke. |
Hey you know who I can't wait for? The doctor and (omg can't remember her name but Matthew's mother) to spar and then get together! I LOVE that doctor! |
I would like to see Edith tell Mary about Marigold too. I think Mary would have a lot more respect for Edith, considering she thinks of her as the most boring person alive. Mary has no idea what's been going on in Edith's life over the past few years. Not only would she be shocked were she to find out, but I think she'd look at Edith with brand new eyes. After all, Mary's certainly no saint. |
Nah... Bates has always been the good guy. |
I don't think it would change the character they've portrayed for Mary. Edith's boyfriend goes missing and he turns up dead. Mary was still a heartless bitch. You would think someone who lost her husband would have more empathy, but it's really an issue of the shallowness of the writing. Pretty much all the characters on Downton are more like caricatures b/c there's been a lack of good dialogue and plot since season 1. |
Ok I'm having a brain fart about last season. Did they find his body or just assume he is dead? I also can't remember, did his wife die before he left for Germany? Or is she still alive? |
I think he's presumed dead. |
yes and on TV, whenever anyone's REALLY dead, you get to watch him die (e.g. Matthew). When someone is PRESUMED DEAD, well… excitement awaits!! |
Ok that's what I thought. And hope! But he was touring in Blithe Spirit last Spring when I think they were shooting ![]() |
It's not your brain, it's the watching paint drying saga that Downton has become. In season 3, Gregson leaves for Germany (1922). In season 4, Edith finds out he got into a street fight with some brown shirts (1923). She's had his baby. In season 5, he's still "missing." Marigold's been adopted by the farmer and his family. Then Edith learns that he's truly dead, but his remains were only recently discovered according to Lord Grantham because "as it had taken such a long time to restore order in the city..." The DA writers were the one with the brain fart. Only 16 people died in the Beer Hall Putsch, Hitler's failed coup. Hitler was sentenced to jail. Restore order to the city? It wasn't 9/11 or Pearl Harbor. Order was restored pretty damn quick. Stretching out this weak storyline over three seasons is pure laziness and lack of imagination. |
Me too. They are my favorite pairing. I feel deep down that they will end up together. I hope it is something racy like them living together but not married. Violet would have a few choice comments!!! |
I think the doctor is a confirmed bachelor, not the marrying kind. Maybe they'll pair him off with Thomas the valet. |
Now this would have been interesting. |
