Opinions on these names please

OP here- interesting everyone assumes I'm a millennial...born in 1973 actually

I think Willa is great (Willa Cather's a pretty awesome writer), and Serena's pretty, too.

Jasper for boys, though I'm partial to Silas but also think it's too hipster-ish (and I'm another 70s baby, OP).

Silas - no

Aris - NO

Girls:
Lyra "lee-ra" - NO!
Willa - love
Aria - no
Calla - no. It has a beautiful meaning, but it is clunky
Katya - no
Serena - sure

That is a try hard list.

Jasper - are ya British? it's okay. If you're American, seems better suited for a dog. If in the UK, it's fine
Milo - HATE
Aris - HATE

Lyra "lee-ra" - not good, not awful
Willa - awful
Aria - not good
Calla - clunky, not good
Katya - are ya Russian? or a former prima ballerina? if so, it's fine.
Serena - ugly

This. Also the boys are painfully hipster-ish, trying too hard. Just awful. Also, while I actually like Katya, it's a nickname really. Maybe Katarina, and call her Katya.

Trying too hard to what?

Also, what constitutes trying hard enough, or not trying hard enough?

Trying too hard to be cool. The names are bad, Bad, BAD. Milo makes me laugh, it's such a hipster stereotype. The boys names are especially amusing. The girls' names are just ugly, except Katya. Which is just meh.

Lyra sounds like a prescription drug.
Milo sounds like a pet's name.
Willa sounds harsh and unappealing.

Back to the drawing board, OP.

No thank you - also some are deceptively hard to pronounce such as Aris and Lila. Serena is ok though and maybe Silas isn't too bad

.

Me too, OP. I have a little Silas. Love his name -- no one seems to have difficulty pronouncing or spelling it, either. Except when he was a preschooler and his little friend called him "Si-wiss".

I like Katya and Serena ok but not any of the others.

I'm sorry OP, I don't like any of them either. I tend to like very classic names (Elizabeth, Mary) or very weird names. Your list is a bit to current and trendy for my tastes. Good luck.

oys:

Silas - too popular
Jasper - reminds me of pets
Milo - too popular
Aris - are you greek? Best of the choices

Girls:

Lyra "lee-ra" - OK
Willa - OK - best of the options
Aria - no
Calla - too trendy
Katya - are you eastern european?
Serena - OK

I was born in 1966, so also not a millennial.

I love the name Silas, and would have had it on my list when I was pregnant with DS1 18 years ago. I.e., long before there were hipsters, lol. Alas, it sounds lousy with our last name.

Willa is lovely.

Love Aris and Willa

Not millennial hipster:
Milo (and Otis, the movie)
Willa (Cather)
Jasper (Johns)

Only Milo and Serena. The rest sound like you're deliberately going for obscurity or something. Milo and Serena are at least fairly common. I know a bunch of Milos under age 5 and a couple of Serenas.

You might be surprised out how common some of these names are now. (Aria, I'm looking at you.):

Girls
#31 Aria
#455 Serena
#549: Willa
(not in top 1000: Calla, Katya, Lyra)

Boys
#137 Silas
#218 Jasper
#311 Milo
(not in top 1000: Aris)

Aria is popular due to main chats on Game of Thrones.

Is it okay to suggest an alternate, OP? Antonia for a girl. It seems to fit with the spirit of those names. I like Willa and Calla the best of your list. I like all the boys names, except for Aris. Maybe Ames for a boy?

Willa is great!
