Q: Is this look ever OK for a 40ish mom of little kids? As in, when you're out at Giant at 2 pm on a Tuesday with your 4 year old at it's 92 degrees?

I've always wanted to go this route, and self-bras or strapless bras are not an option

I say no, as well. For one, if built-in bras or strapless bras don't work for you, don't you think you need more support than what a thin spaghetti bra strap will give you? I don't know any mom, cup size b or over, who at age 40 doesn't need good support.

That bra strap/spaghetti strap thing is only passable on very young bodies, IMO.

I'll dissent here--I wear this look and am a C cup; am in good shape, with toned arms. I think I look fine.

Sorry, can't see that being true unless you've had implants. Natural, post-baby, post-breast feeding breasts aren't cutting it at 40+.

Not the PP you are referring to, but your comment sounds bitter and jealous to me. I have had no implants, am also a C cup, have had two kids and nursed both of them for a long time, yet my chest isn't saggy or unappealing. Sorry to disappoint you, O judgmental one...

NP here. Well maybe not to you...but please spare us the sight of your post-partum boobs and bra straps. There are also a lot of fat chicks out there who think they look great baring their mid-rift.

NP who has been reading this thread with interest, since I too like tank tops, esp. in the 90 degree DC summers. Seriously, why so hostile? Also, what in the world does wearing a tank top have to do with showing one's midriff? And did I miss where they said they were fat? On the contrary, I thought they said they were in good shape. Begs the question of whether or not you even read the prior posts. Not to mention that even if they are fat, so what? Fat people aren't allowed to wear nice clothes? Get over yourselves!

I agree with what one of the PPs said--why do you even care what other people wear or don't wear? Good grief, you people are just plain mean and nasty. Not to mention that all these mean-spirited comments about postpartum women are just self-hating and sad.

Now then, back to the original question: to the PPs who were wondering about the bra strap issue, here is what I do (40, two kids, C-D cup, and yessirree, breastfed both of them a loooong time): wear a strapless bra. You'd be surprised--there are good strapless bras out there today that give decent support. That way you can have your cake and eat it too: wear spaghetti straps and also not have bra straps show.

PP again--just saw where one of the PPs said that strapless bras weren't an option--I would suggest that you go shopping to a good store, like Nordstrom or Sylene or somewhere like that. Honestly, you'd be surprised at the quality and amount of support you can get nowadays in strapless bras. I have one that gives better support than several of my regular bras!
