Dressing "age appropriate" at 40

Anonymous
Honestly, I do not understand the aversion people have to Uggs. They are comfortable and warm, which is why I wear them. Just because teenagers have picked up on a trend doesn't mean it has to be automatically excluded from my wardrobe. Almost anything trickles down to them and by that logic I'd have to stop wearing just about every label I like. It's one thing to wear a pair of sweats with JUICY on the butt (which no one looks good in, imo) but Uggs??? Come on!

OP, tune in to ANY Desperate Housewives show and dress the opposite of those women.

I am 8 mo pos partum and have 10 lbs to go....and have fat around my waist-hips that will result in a muffin top with jeans. I bought some yummie tummies off ebay and they work great.

I'm turning 40 this year and am in good shape, but have reached the point where I can't wear skirts/dresses that hit above the knee anymore. I'll still wear shorts, but am switching from the 4" to the 6" inseams. And I really need to get better fitting bras to look better in tee shirts now that the girls have taken a hit from breastfeeding.

I looked up Uggs on the net. Gross. Uggs must be short for ugly boots.

There is one thing worse then Uggs. Crocs!

For the love of God, PLEASE don't wear Crocs! I hate them and escalators love to eat them off kids' feet.

It's one thing to say Uggs are ugly - I disagree, esp. re: the crocheted and other "non-standard" Uggs- but that is different than saying that they are not age appropriate for someone over 40. That is just silly.

What is so wrong with Talbot's?

LOL! Crocs are the ugliest shoes ever. Why do people wear those??? Yes, I'm talking about children AND adults.

Nothing, IMO. There is some older looking stuff for sure, but you can buy classics, and honestly, it's some of the best made clothing I've purchased, regardless of price. Love their shoes, too.

OP here. Please take what I said about the Uggs as "my opinion" which is how I stated it. Everyone has their "thing" and that's mine.

Yuck. That would be ridiculous. I'm just wondering if there are any "looks" out there that make an older woman appear as if they are trying to look younger. I just keep thinking of one of my friends in high school's mother who picked up on every fashion trend that we did, and she looked ridiculous sometimes (i.e. the neon phase and Jams to name a few). For example, the one thing I think looks ridiculous on "older" women is Uggs. This is just my opinion, mind you, but this is the type of thing I'm talking about.

shopping at Bebe or Forever 21. Avoid these types of places and you'll be fine.

You know what's funny about Americans and Uggs....

I don't know how many people in the US realize this, but when they were invented in Australia back in the 1960s, most Australians only wore them as house shoes. You'd never see anyone wearing them outside. Uggs were essentially house slippers, even the boot kind.
