Washington Golf and Country Club

The people watching is fun too. You just have to watch the loppyists hanging on every word of the few politicians!

+1 this thread is just MoCo centered. There's no appreciable difference between the people at Chevy Chase, Columbia, Washington Golf, or Army's navy (except the military folks there)

Most of the members aren't very important in the Washington scene in general, but were quite cliquey and snobby nonetheless (These women were "top dogs" at the nearby public elementary school Jamestown, lol.). We've since joined a more exclusive club and ironically the members are so much friendlier. The view of the Cathedral from the back deck at WGCC and the food though were amazing.

LOL @ top dogs at public school! I always chuckle about the Arlington moms who spend big bucks on the CC while the kids go to overcrowded public schools.

I'm not sure the competition is that steep compared to the NVSL - which most of the local swim clubs belong to. I say this as someone not part of the swim team culture but someone who knows several people who belong to both Chesterbrook and the "club" and they specifically keep their Chesterbrook membership so their kids can swim on that team.

I know those families too. (Chesterbrook member with kids who swim here). The country club teams can't hold a candle to the NVSL--this area has some of hte country's best swimmers and swim programs. Just the sheer number of winter teams compared to most areas is astounding.

There are no billionaires, sears prize winners, etc, etc, etc at wash golf. There are many at other places.

Perhaps but not really. Most of the people at all of these clubs are doctors, lawyers, lobbyists, etc etc. most people go to the club that's nearest and there's not much difference between Bethesda, Chevy Chase, North Arlington, McLean. Except Virginia suburbs are a little newer and nicer.

I had to look up Sears prize.

that is really funny. 10K prize for getting good grades. Yep, you are right, no country club is putting a plaque on their wall for that.

Hey - I won the Sears prize

Really? What's that?

An award for good grades - I won $10K.

Really, wow. We should really let more people know this to help raise the stature of the club.

This! It's funny how these women think being in the clique at public schools and being members of the Junior League (which admits anyone who applies) make them Queen Bees. Meanwhile, the moms at Cathedral Schools, Landon, Holton, etc. who belong to CCC, Columbia and Congressional, with real social standing (if you care about that sort of thing) tend to be more welcoming and more fun.

WGCC is simply not that prestigious and should be a fun, welcoming place. It's just silly that it's not.

There is a world of difference between the members of these clubs. If you don't think so, you're not very insightful. There is no club in VA that comes close to having the same social credibility as Chevy, Burning Tree or Columbia.

This is so true!!! It's a major reason that I didn't look in the Jamestown school pyramid though CCH is the nicest neighborhood in Arlington. The women are nice on their own, but together it's just laughable.

That's funny you think those clubs have "real social standing".

One and then many. So silly. But you go with your tokens. Many matter more.
