Washington Golf and Country Club

If you live in Arlington, check out Army Navy CC. I'm not a CC person but DH joined and I ate my words - it was great for the kids. I felt like it was very down to earth though I didn't do much socializing myself.

Second ANCC, beautiful new renovation.

the golf course is long (meaning the greens are narrow and long)

You still have to pay to play on top of your membership fees, right?

As a member, you only have to pay to play if you rent a cart. Actual WGCC member here. It's true that I wouldn't exactly say it's "laid-back" up there, but it is fun. This is a big area, and we see WGCC as a way for our family to be a part of a smaller community within the larger one. There are so many young families now, and my kids have a ball on the swim team and in tennis clinics. I am by no means a perfect outfit type of person (and in fact often show up for pool or tennis in (non-lululemon, gasp!) workout clothes), and even I have a group of nice women with whom I like to pass the time. Can't beat the facilities in N Arlington.

The woman I know is the type that would step on your head to get to the next rung. Former dental hygienist who looks down her nose at everyone. Look before you leap.

Well, it kinda goes with the job doesn't it? Next time you're at the dentist, check out how they look at you while you're lying on the chair.

They talk about person after person and their kids. So mean. What these ladies don't quite understand is that there are always ears listening. This is essentially the kind of women at WGCC with few but some exceptions.

Ha!! Every time I hear something like this it makes me smile and that Bonnie Rait song always plays in my head...

"Let's give 'em something to talk about...'

You ain't living if you don't give a bunch of catty bitches something to talk about!!

My gf's and I know several of the club uptight moms and we welcome the talk. You are boring if nobody wants to bother talking ...ha!

How does WGCC win so many swim meets in the CCSDA? Is there specific initiative to recruit swimmers?

I'm not sure the competition is that steep compared to the NVSL - which most of the local swim clubs belong to. I say this as someone not part of the swim team culture but someone who knows several people who belong to both Chesterbrook and the "club" and they specifically keep their Chesterbrook membership so their kids can swim on that team.

This is a stupid comment.

I live in the neighborhood so get to be a frequent guest. It is snobby and there is a very segregated groupmof women that are fun loving, perhaps drink a little too much and carry their club membership with pride. They are mostly stay at home parents of middle and high school kids that just play tennis while their kids are at school. They strike me as being a bit bored but make up for it with "girls lunches" and "girls weekends".

The swim team is another major point of prode. It pulls from the local families that have loads of kids that swim year round for AAC and York. It is the best of the country club swim teams but is not a NVSL competitive team (maybe division 2). Parents compete to be timers at the A meets.

We used to be members but didn't really enjoy it there. Most of the members aren't very important in the Washington scene in general, but were quite cliquey and snobby nonetheless (These women were "top dogs" at the nearby public elementary school Jamestown, lol.). We've since joined a more exclusive club and ironically the members are so much friendlier. The view of the Cathedral from the back deck at WGCC and the food though were amazing.
