Whatever happened to textbooks?

Yeah, I don't know what they're doing over at Gatehouse. I think actually the material is available, but the teachers just don't have the time to implement the curriculum. Too many specials and too many children in a classroom. I never said Ecart was the answer, but I have no problems with my child taking 2 ecart tests a year. I think they are one piece of understanding math and reading progress. That's all.


I agree with your assessment of the situation. If your child is in 1st grade, you should let him/her read to you and talk about what he/she is reading. I think it's important to let your child choose what he/she likes. You can help him/her pronounce words and enjoy the book. Enjoyment is key to keeping reading going. Don't worry if your child is not a perfect reader or is late to reading (it will happen). Good luck. I miss my son being a first grader. Enjoy it all!

My oldest is in 4th grade.
