I am pro choice and my au pair won't drive our kids

Anonymous
Just take the sticker off. Like others have said, get a magnet if you feel that strongly about it. Then you can put it on when you drive, and take it off before you pass the car back to nanny.

Well, I wouldn't want to drive a car with a stars and bars bumper sticker, or a "marriage is between a man and a woman" bumper sticker, so I respect her feelings, even though I disagree with her views. I think you should cover it if you expect her to drive the car. The agreement is that she'll take care of the kids, not advertise social or political beliefs.

No, not really.

If we do decide to get rid of her, do you think there are legal ramifications?

Take it to the nanny forum OP.

Rematch

AND lose the sticker.

OP should drive her own kids and then she can do it how she wants to do it.

+1. Your family, your choice. Her driving, her choice.

bumper stickers are so tacky looking. And you hired her to care for you kids, not to advertise YOUR political views. If you decide to rematch, make sure you put a picture of your car in your ad so you can weed out people who don't want to drive your trashy car.

Nanny here.

Fire her. That's bullshit.
Anonymous
At least nanny is telling you about it directly. She could just cover it up with masking tape or something like that if she wanted to.

I think that it is unfair to ask her to advertise a belief that she finds morally offensive. It offends the AP's moral and religious convictions. Respect that.

First, this. Nothing screams tacky like a bumper sticker. Unless you are a college kid.

Second, just put a magnetic thingy over it when she drives. Honestly, I wouldn't want to drive around with a "pro-life" or a "pro-choice" bumper sticker because it's embarrassing. Really, what grown up has bumper stickers on their car?

I am proud to support pro choice and why do you feel it is tacky to voice an opinion or what you support?

Because slapping a tacky sticker on your car is not supporting pro-choice. It's simply your way of getting attention. Everyone knows that. No one looks at a bumper sticker and thinks, "wow. I'm so glad she is pro-choice". It's a way of calling attention to yourself. Totally normal in teens and college aged kids. Most adults adults outgrow that nonesense.

I can understand your au pairs feelings. I would be embarrassed to drive around in a car with a bumper sticker like that - "pro-choice" or "choose-life".

I bet you polish that Lexus emblem regularly, though. Why not rip that off, too?

I would be embarrassed to drive a car around with either a pro-choice or one of those horrid (sometimes graphic) anti-abortion stickers on them.

I would find another nanny and just cover the sticker until her last day. Things are so politicized in the DC area I do not have any stickers of any kind on my car. Might use a magnet during presidential season.

My kids adore her. they really have accepted her, much more than the last one. That is a big factor in this as well.
