I am pro choice and my au pair won't drive our kids

Seriously. This is cut and dry.

Ironic you would drive your kids around with a kill children sticker

Or buy yourself a t-shirt and wear it proudly while you have this AP. Really, pick your battles. You aren't going to change her mind, and frankly, your sticker isn't likely changing anyone else's either.

This pretty much sums it up. You are both being immature. Like the zaks from Dr. Suess.

If I were an au pair, I would not consider it my place to refuse service because of my host's beliefs, as long as they did not impact my life within that family. I would not mind driving my host's car festooned with messages I was opposed to. If I was too uncomfortable, I would make the decision to leave and give due notice.

So, I question your au pair's judgement and sense of entitlement.

She is decent, rather new, met the requirements we had. My DH said imagine if we had a domestic nanny who had a car that was driving our kids around saying they were pro life, would I care?

The difference is that the AP has agreed to a cultural exchange, meaning living in this family's home with their customs and beliefs. She doesn't get to decide how those beliefs are being expressed through the family's own property.

As I said earlier, I think this whole thing is a red flag, OP. Rematch.

Bumper stickers are tacky. Take it off for that reason.

If it's the nanny's car, who cares. But this is your car and your property. It's not the APs.

Rematch. I'm telling you this as a long time HM. If it's not this event, it will be something else.

Your DH is being very sensible about this.

First, this. Nothing screams tacky like a bumper sticker. Unless you are a college kid.

Second, just put a magnetic thingy over it when she drives. Honestly, I wouldn't want to drive around with a "pro-life" or a "pro-choice" bumper sticker because it's embarrassing. Really, what grown up has bumper stickers on their car?

Period.

I would be livid.

Thank God I don't work for you. The word bigot comes to mind.

That's not a bad idea, OP.

She is not from Europe.

Get a non-offensive car magnet and tell her she is free to place it over the sticker when she is driving your car. Problem solved.

I am proud to support pro choice and why do you feel it is tacky to voice an opinion or what you support?
