A Cap and Trade approach to fighting global warming would not be that costly, and some of the cost would be offset by benefits other than fighting climate change. For example reducing conventional air pollution. Which among other things can trigger asthma. That is really not that controversial, except among people who are infuriated by any argument saying that limits on GHG emissions will not be that costly. |
I remember when conssrvatives supported cap and trade. |
"Keep in mind that climate change is just one more example of how the environment will cause health problems, and I think most people understand that,” the president responded.
This is correct. Climate change is an environmental problem that will imact public health. In that, it is much like conventional air pollution. Which can, for example, cause asthma. Too subtle for the press to understand, I guess. |
I would say real conservatives still do. I for example think its a good idea, because it leverages the power of the market, the power of enterprise, and price as a signal. All things I believe in, which always used to drive my lefty friends crazy. Now all the so called conservatives think I am socialist, and my lefty friends are busy worrying about gender neutral bathrooms. |
+1 Cadillac One + 10 Suburbans + 20 Crown Victorias driven for one mile =much more pollution than one suv driven for 50 miles. |
Right, so the President should travel alone in a Prius, because no matter how stupid that sounds, he must prostrate himself in order to credibly care about carbon emissions. Because security is just this unnecessary perk. |
No he should turn off the lights, have no computers or electrical devices because the production of electricity has the highest emissions. An electric car, unless it is powered up by only solar panels, pollutes more than a car powered by fossil fuels. Air travel causes more air pollution than cars so he should ground AF1. |
Hyperbole helps no one PP. There are plenty of steps, practical and symbolic that he could take if he wanted to |
That article is unclear. |
Right. Decadent times we live in. |
The bolded part is false, BTW. Even with coal fired power plants plug in electrics are good, because they are more efficient than internal combustion engines. Also of course your whole post is silly. The President did not say no one should drive an SUV. He said that environmental regulations will help us. |
The biggest things he could do, would be to limit the building of new coal fired power plants, encourage more renewables - oh wait, never mind. |
You mean like installing solar panels on the White House roof? Check. BTW Carter put solar panels on the roof, but Reagan threw them out. What's the symbolism of that? |
Jimmy Cartee and solar panels? Wow. Thanks old timer. |
Not to mention that the Presidemt and his family often ride around in armored, heavied-up SUVs, surrounded by a convoy of numerous other SUVs carrying Secret Service, aides and other staff. |
