Really? I would say its because she is a damn fantastic singer! I'm no little monster by any means but I've known for some time that she's more than a walking meat dress. Its nice to see her play it straight as everyone is saying but it probably proves a point to her. People if you can look beyond the gimmicks and her alter egos she's an amazing talent.
I also think it is really cool when this kind of "mash-up" occurs--a person you would never expect to be singing those songs. Sure, there are other talented singers out there.
I suppose Idina Menzel could have nailed it. But that wouldn't have been nearly as riveting as LG.
As for not being surprised that she worked with a voice coach--are you kidding? Every serious vocalist works with a coach. And if you think what you heard last night was a trained seal instead of talent, you really have no idea what you are talking about.
