Lady Gaga... this is not an ironic performance

Yeah, because looks are way more important than talent.

I had no idea she could sing like that! Wow!

But she definitely looked out of place in the dress and hair with those tattoos glaring.

Just heard on the morning news that she worked with a voice coach for 6 months in preparation of this song. Go Gaga.

And that's the shame in today's pop music. All about the marketing, not about the raw talent. She has an incredible voice, which was hidden in the gimmicks

Doesn't surprise me. The song is well out of her noreal singing range.

Not sure why the Oscar people chose her. Th er ecare so many other really good singers that could've pulled it off too.

She did a terrific job and is clearly fond of the source material. Go Gaga!

Really? I would say its because she is a damn fantastic singer! I'm no little monster by any means but I've known for some time that she's more than a walking meat dress. Its nice to see her play it straight as everyone is saying but it probably proves a point to her. People if you can look beyond the gimmicks and her alter egos she's an amazing talent.

I have never been a Lady Gaga fan. Last night changed that. She really has a powerful voice. Very impressed.
I don’t care for the gimmicks. Maybe that will change now.

Agree that she did an amazing job. I, too, kept waiting for her to do something wacky. Lovely tribute and by far the best performance of the night.

She was wonderful. And she looked lovely, too. But I guess I am old--the tattoos just seem a shame to me. She has lovely, lovely skin, so jarring to see a horn on her bicep every time she lifted her arm.

I've always thought she was talented, and though I'm not a particular fan I never minded the gimmicks. But who knew she had THAT kind of voice? Stunning.

I also think it is really cool when this kind of "mash-up" occurs--a person you would never expect to be singing those songs. Sure, there are other talented singers out there. I suppose Idina Menzel could have nailed it. But that wouldn't have been nearly as riveting as LG.

As for not being surprised that she worked with a voice coach--are you kidding? Every serious vocalist works with a coach. And if you think what you heard last night was a trained seal instead of talent, you really have no idea what you are talking about.

She is a classically trained pianist and vocalist from Julliard. She has always been amazingly talented, It was just hidden under gimmicks

Agreed. I'm the PP and have never really been a fan either. This coupled w/her duets w/Tony Bennett is gaining her a whole new following.

I have tattoos and of course am no pop star and mine really can only be seen at the beach and I have to agree w/those kinda put off by them. I just feel old even revealing this. I guess in a meat dress or at the MTV awards I wouldn't have blinked twice but in a gown w/the hills alive w/music and all. No ma'am! Also I guess because I know she can sing I didn't find the performance ironic at all. Quite lovely minus the tats.

I thought her performance was wonderful! Her performances with Tony Bennett have also been great. I think that true vocal talent is the ability to sing many different styles and types of songs, and Lady Gaga can definitely do that.

She's so much better than the over-vocalizing, screetching women that are so often performers at these events!

It was hands down the best part of the evening for my viewing party gang.
I loved it at the end when Julie Andrews came out and they hugged. You could really tell that it meant a lot to Lady Gaga, and Julie Andrews seemed genuinely touched and pleased. Loved it!

For the record, I love me crazy Lady Gaga too. And jazz singing with Tony Bennett Gaga. I think it awesome that she can shine in so many different genres, and I can enjoy and appreciate her in all of them.
