Hmm... if reporting what they say is a "hit job", then I feel sorry for you. He also refused to take a stand on evolution btw. After all, scientific illiterates are an important constituency.

They represent the majority of the gop.

In case you didn't know

And why we are an embarrassment in the developed world. Thank you fundamentalist America.

Not sure is the smartest answer. The fact is... We don't REALLY know. Both sides are religiously defensive and invested in their beliefs ... All of which have conflicting and contradictory evidence that they dismiss . We only know a fraction of the past and what we know is tenuous.

OMG YES WE DO KNOW! If humans were created ten thousand years ago, then God is a truly deceitful being. Because in that case he created a universe, a planet, and a species in which every single detail points to an age far, far greater than 10,000 years. Scientists are not religiously defensive. They are driven by the evidence that they see day in and day out. They should be invested in that belief because it is based on evidence.

I'm sorry. Did you really write that we "don't know," as in, "We don't know that evolution is a fact"?

By that moronic logic i guess we don't really know if santa claus makes all the toys in the world and delivers every one at midnight via red nosed reindeer.

Also, we don't really know that leprechauns aren't at the end of rainbows.

A scientist can easily believe in God, seeing it as his/her duty to try to understand God's Universe and how it works. The Bible, obviously, was written by humans, and even if it is God's Word, it was filtered through the understanding of those who wrote it down.

The Universe, on the other hand, is truly God's Work (if you believe in God), and while we may not fully understand it to the point where we can ever say that our interpretation is True, we can certainly strive to find the interpretation that best fits what we know of the Universe. One facet of that best understanding is evolution as an explanation of all the evidence we find about our background.

His campaign has basically pulled him from the airwaves for a while to let things die down.

Natural selection is almost definitely a fact. Evolution is not. No proof at all that species become different species . Even bacteria with an incredible short observable lifespan has never changed type in billions of generations. No fossil evidence proves species /type change and there is "problematica " fossil evidence that disproves current theory that is ignored.

Whatever the actual truth is about the nature of existence has a very high probability of being completely different than our current beliefs.

The Evening Primrose and Raphanobrassica are examples of speciation.
