Why does my pork loin smell like feces?

Anonymous
Another farmer here, but I managed a swine production after college. I don’t eat pork. Honestly, I eat my family’s beef (literally drive cross country to bring home half a cow each year), and whatever we hunt (elk, antelope, and deer). Still work in ag, preach the safety of modern techniques in stock and crop, but I’ve got preferences.

I found this thread after googling why pork always smells gross. Does anyone have a suggestion as to where to buy decent pork in the DC area?

I got a tapeworm from bad pork so I don't eat it anymore. It was either from canitas at Chipotle or.pork feom Costco. Be careful.

YIKES!! How do you know it was from the pork?? Was this recently?

Because it came out...almost a foot long. This happened about a year ago. Took medication, all is well now.

Yes, but how did you tie the tape worm to pork, specifically? It can come from all under cooked meat, including sushi or beef, as well as contaminated water.

I did a dry gag reading the title. I can't imagine my house smelling like that. *shivers*

Here is a link to local farms, some of them appear to have beef and pork. It will cost more, but the quality is so much better. I also highly recommend trying a quarter or half of beef.

Hush, city girl. Pigs are actually very clean. They stink but they're very particular about their habitat. They tend to poop in the same spot and they never root in their poop.

I've grown up in a village and I can assure you that pigs are really dirty animals... I've seen them eat their own poop and drink each others piss... I was just a little kid back then. I try to eat less pork because of this...

Yes. Free range all the way. Trader's joe has affordable, great tenderloin from range free pigs.
