Thanks. Both my DS and I felt badly for the kids who could not get out. We are incredibly grateful that we were able to get the FA needed to send him to private. And he is entirely different kid now. So happy and engaged. I feel like I saved his life. No child should have to go to a school where they feel unsafe. And this is about the admin, not the kids. The schools and the admins need to adapt to their student population, not just ignore what's happening. Also, they passed my kid through with straight A's so that if I tried to fight for FAPE and transfer or get $$ for private I wouldn't have legal grounds. Yes, this happens. |

this was posted in the "Older kids and teenagers" forum. In case you'd like to help:
As been reported in the news and shared with particular school communities, on Monday, a 7th grade student from Lee M.S. passed away. Amie Wohlfarth and Therese Gibson, our Kennedy CC's, have been working diligently since then with the Lee M.S. community around the unfortunate circumstances of Elvis' death. Funeral costs for a child is something few, if any of us, plan for, and can be very expensive, making an unbearable time even more stressful. To reduce some of that worry, Amie has set up a YouCaring donation page to benefit the family. If you are able and willing, please consider making a donation; if you are not able to make a donation, please share the information with others. YouCaring link: https://www.youcaring.com/memorial-fundraiser/help-for-elvis-family/305430 Thank you. Frances Frost MCCPTA President |
| Oh my God, I just realized that I know this child - I taught him in elementary school. He was handsome, charming, energetic, athletic, a bit of a handful at times, but he was no different that your child, anyone's child. He was truly a special person. If he was bullied, I'd be surprised - in my experience he didn't take anything from anyone. But never, ever in a million years would I have thought his life would end like this. I truly hope you consider donating to the donation fund for his family - I know I will. |
How utterly heartbreaking-this beautiful child is gone. How did he slip through the cracks? What prompted him to do such a thing as to take his own young life? I wonder if it was bullying, or was he abused either inside or out of the home, was he gay or transgendered? and felt like he would never be accepted? so many unanswered questions. I wish more could have been done. |
Reading this just breaks my heart. My heart truly goes out to the family of this young man. Shame on the administrators! They completely dropped the ball and ignored the issues that were going on within their school.

I'm so sorry that your child had to endure that horrific environment. I'm glad that your child is in a safe learning environment now. No child should have to feel unsafe at school. |
