Anyone heard of this tragic incident

Are you the type of person who doesn't read an article but still has VERY strong opinions about it, anyway?

To wit:

"“We don’t believe there were any other children who were involved in this directly,” [MPS spokeswoman] Tofig said."

In the future, when you have the urge to post, suppress it. Thank you.

Dana Tofig is a man. In the future, when you have the urge to post...

NP - I actually started a new thread since I didn't see this one first. I'm cutting and pasting my remarks. I can pretty much guarantee it was directly related to his experiences at school. I know the teachers and Admins, and they have NO business teaching kids or running a school. My DS suffered greatly, and he was there for just a year.

"Was in metro section of WaPo yesterday. Here's the Gazette story: http://www.gazette.net/article/20150210/NEWS/15021...iddle-School&template=gazette. A 7th grader. I'm horrified and can't imagine what his family is going through. My DS was there for 6th grade last year, so this kid was in his class. I pulled my son and we started private this year because the school was so badly run and my DS was getting beaten up and bullied and school admins turned a blind eye every time. After going apeshit on the school and even writing Starr, we bailed. Best decision ever. Of course I'm not going to tell DS about this, and I know this not all about my kid at all, but that school has been broken for years and no one has been paying attention. Those poor kids, and that poor family."

PP, way to make this family's tragedy about you.

I know first-hand..No bullying.

Sign of the 21st century. Assume every issue in school is due to bullying.

Whatever - that is obviously not my intent. It is the smallest MS in the county, and I knew the kids in that class, and have direct experience with the school. People on this thread are jumping all over themselves with speculation, but I doubt any of them or you have ever set foot inside that building. I was a parent there, of a child in that class, and it was the worst year of my kid's life. No. Joke. Yes, one of my first thoughts was that this could've been my kid. And that my kid knows this kid, and most likely I know the family and I can't imagine what they are going through. It's awful. Whatever issues this child had, I can tell you without hesitation that the school exacerbated them rather than providing a place where he felt safe.

Thanks for weighing in Principal Williams. Bang up job you are doing there.

My son attends a neighboring middle school which plays against Lee MS. My DC only interaction with him was during games, said the boy was super outgoing.

So very sad. I believe you. Those poor kids.

PP here. When we left Lee, my DS said "I feel so sorry for all my friends who have to stay here". I wish I were exaggerating or making that up. He had some sort of survivor's remorse. ALL of those kids deserve better.

That middle school is known for hispanic vs black gangs - even in middle school. Lots of bullying and violence. The only positive out of this awful tragedy should be to spotlight the crap the administration and principal downplays so their records look clean. And remember all of the reports of blacks and hispanics having too many suspensions and problems over white kids. Guess what? Schools no longer punish so the record looks better. It is TOTAL bullshit.

Actually John Poole MS is smaller, by about 300 students.

I stand corrected.
But Lee is the smallest in downcounty and W clusters. Poolesville and the upcounty is a different animal entirely, even though it's within MoCo.

Loiderman has a similar dempgraphic to Lee-my friend pulled her daughter 3 month in due the the fights, bullying and disruptions. I think MCPS needs to really fix this problem and redistribute all the poor, minority kids so that the system is more balanced. The schools here are very segregated for the most part. The illegal immigration issue has only added to the problem.

Don't listen to the the idiot in bold-PP. Thank you for sharing your experience with this crappy Middle School. A friend of mine had a son in a similar type of school and it was absolutely horrible. SAdly, they were unable to pull their kid due to lack of money (to move or for private), he went on to an equally awful High school and was tormented daily. Her smart, beautiful, vibrant and socialble son is now a dysfunctional recluse, who is so damaged by the bullying and torment he went through, that I fear he may never recover. So glad you were able to "save" your child from the zoo they were in. Some, sadly are not that lucky.
