Anyone heard of this tragic incident

Why? We talk about every other death. Why not this one?

Poor kid, so sad for his family, friends and school.

Very young teen, mental health issues, if I were the parents reading this callous discussion would break my heart.

Are you the type of person who doesn't read an article but still has VERY strong opinions about it, anyway?

To wit:

"“We don’t believe there were any other children who were involved in this directly,” [MPS spokeswoman] Tofig said."

In the future, when you have the urge to post, suppress it. Thank you.

NP. I'm sure that statement meant there were no other children involved in his actual death. I don't believe it's a statement about whether or not he was bullied.

What makes you sure? Why would you contradict the spokeswoman in this way? Do you have knowledge? I take it as face value, and find this mind-reading of yours to be utterly fascinating. Do tell.

I am taking the statement at face value. When they say that no other children were involved in the child's death directly, I take that to mean that no other children were involved in the child's death directly. Not to mention that, just using common sense, they would not have had time yet to fully investigate whether any bullying had been going on.

Also, dial it back a notch.

Excuse me? You don't get to speculate baselessly about something and tell me to "dial it back a notch." I believe I asked you to stop posting. Please comply. Thank you.

New poster here. You are a tad off and extremely rude. If you want to think the investigation is closed because of one comment a spokesperson said, go right ahead. But every other normal person would understand it means "no kids were directly involved with his death, aka we think it is suicide." Why a 13yr old commits suicide halfway thru a school day inside the school will now be investigated. My thought is bullies too.

Let's not jump to blaming others.

When minors suffer, others are always to blame.

Yes, this. What if this were your child? It is heartbreaking.

Not true. I work in mental health and it isn't always that simple. Mental illness isn't just about being bullied or having inadequate parenting. You can be the best parents in the world and suffer a tragedy like this. We don't like to think that because that's too scary. But it's the truth.

I'd assume bullies too. 7th grade is like peak bullying season.

So sad for this child. Wish someone had done something.

See where I prefaced my post with "NP"? That means new poster. I am not the poster you told not post. Also, you're not the sheriff of this thread, and you don't get to decide who gets to post, or what is discussed.

Agree with other PP that there's something off about you.

^^^Also, my apologies to everyone else reading this thread, I will stop engaging the nutty PP and derailing the original discussion.

This is very true, was talking to a friend this morning and we both have experiences of friends who committed suicide in their youth. Looking back with the eyes of an adult, the thread of mental illness runs deep.

It's very callous and thoughtless to speculate at this point. Anything other than sympathy and compassion for this child and his family is just classless and in poor taste.

We can be better than this as DC urban parents.

Regardless of the triggers - could have been bullying, bad grade, bad day that seemed hopeless, we should all remember that there but for the grace, go I or my child. No person is immune, and we can only hope that the message gets received by the child that suicide is not an answer and that there are people - whether it be teachers, counselors, coaches, parents, peers, that they can talk to before it looks like death is the only option. We can also make very clear that this is not just something that happens to OTHER PEOPLE's children - it happens to ANY child, even children of "normal" families, even children that seemingly have "everything going for them." or have "lots of friends." And we can only hope that the community support is there to see the child through it.

I'm thinking bullies too-that is a shitty school so the likelihood is even greater. Sad for the kid and his family.
